Annual Report 2022

We are very happy to say after a hard 2021 with lots of sickness and the loss of three of our children to malaria, 2022 has been a better year. Our schools reopened in January after being closed all through covid and have remained open ever since. The first few weeks were difficult as our children adjusted to being back in the school environment after so long at home, but they soon settled down and worked really hard to catch up. In March, the community experienced a large outbreak of covid that affected all our schools and many of our children, but thankfully everyone recovered well with no serious illnesses. £500 was sent to support the medical needs of everyone during this time of sickness. We had many children sitting exams this year and £730 was sent in March to cover examination fees.

We are so thankful to have another 2 families resettle this year outside of the village. Linda, who came to the village in 2021 with her family, was able to get a job locally in the high school as a librarian that came with accommodation. Agnes got married and moved away from the village. With one house remaining empty at the end of 2021, this allowed us to welcome 3 new needy families into Hope Village this year. Frank and his 6 children moved into House 20 in April. Franks wife developed mental health problems after the birth of their fifth child and was unable to care for her children leaving Frank homeless as a single father. Prossy and family moved into House 8 with her sister and 6 children in September. Betty and Anthony and their 5 children moved in just before Christmas to House 9; after being recommended by a church where they had been sleeping under polythene. £1170 was sent in total for house requirements for these 3 new families. £200 was sent to cover school requirements for some of these children as well. It has been wonderful to see the happiness in their faces now these new families have a safe place to call home.

This year we were able to bring Child Evangelism Fellowship trainers to our Inspired Hope Church for a week of intense CEF training after receiving a generous donation to cover this. Some of our older sponsor children were selected for training and now take an active role in ministry within the church, teaching Sunday school classes and running different bible clubs. This has been such a blessing.

Due to global warming, for the first time this year we encountered a problem where there was no sun to run the solar powered water pump system and all the tanks ran dry, leaving our families and the local community with no water. We were able to purchase a generator and change over switch to run the pumps until the solar began to work again at a cost of £1220.

We were able to build another 2 houses in the community for poor families in need. Ruth’s home was flooded in the heavy rain and their polythene roof collapsed leaving her and her children homeless. Geoffrey, Catherine and family, had to sell all their animals and everything they had to cover medical bills for their two anaemic children who needed blood

transfusions, leaving them with a leaking house, grass roof eaten by termites, and nothing left inside their home. £1250 was sent to complete each house.

We also send funds during the year for other needs including:

Our balance at the start of 2022 was £17629.80 and we end the year with a balance of £20597.54. During the course of this year we received £4,323.28 in general donations £13,475 in specific donations, £8,764.37 in gift aid and £36,125.01 in child sponsorship. £58,634 in total was sent to Uganda.

We are very thankful for so much support here in Northern Ireland to enable us to keep helping those in need in Uganda.
