Hillsborough Ranger Guides was set up to advance the education of girls and young women to help them develop emotionally, mentally, physically, and spiritually so they can make a positive contribution to their community and the wider world and develop their full potential. ,

To this aim, Hillsborough Ranger Guides met each month from September 2024 to June 2025. Our theme for the year was ‘Adventure badges’. Activities included:

Welcome back meeting - Walk up to the top of Slieve Croob and return to the car park in the dark with torches for hot chocolate and sweets (Land Badge).

Treasure Hunt - A treasure hunt around Hillsborough helped the girls to find out more about their local area (Land Badge).

Civil Engineering Badge - Create bridges using minimal equipment and test which can carry the heaviest load. This badge aims at attracting more females into the world of civil engineering.

Christmas - creating gingerbread houses over lots of chat and laughter.

Craft night - Four different crafts to try including quilting, baking, sewing badges and felting.

Zumba - Shaking our bodies and getting into the groove with keep fit (sports badge).

|

International Women’s Day - Celebrating being women, coaching the girls with confidence and learning about other famous extraordinary women.

It’s a knockout - Fun and wacky games based on the 1980’s TV series (sports badge).

End of year outing - visit to Moira Lakes (water badge).

Hillsborough Ranger Guides also ran a Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award expedition in July in the Mourne Mountains and a Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expedition in October on Rathlin Island.

The trustees believe that the activities organised throughout 2024-25 have met all the public benefit requirements.
