The objectives of the charity are as follows:

To increase intra-community capacity and cohesion.

The charity works to promote intra-community capacity building and cross-community good relations in the Upper Springfield/Upper Shankill area.

Achievements and Performance

Main Achievements

Our main achievement for this year has been the opening of our Shared Space Centre.

Physically this building has removed pre-existing Peace Walls/Barriers, connecting 2 communities and making resources readily available to both.

Our building also provides a wide range of programmes and services to the neighbouring communities. We have welcomed over ten thousand people through our doors from both communities and introduced events that would not otherwise be available in this area.

Financial Review

Financial Position

The results for the year are set out on page 7. Net movement of funds int he year was a deficit of £153,965 for the year compared to a surplus of £31,778 in the previous year. During the year there was expenditure of restriceted funds which were received in the previous year. At the year end the balances of restricted and unrestricted funds held were £32,203 and £35,750 respectively.

Governing Document

Blak Mountain Shared Space is a company limited by guarantee, incorporated on 19 April 2017. It is governed by its Memorandum and Articles of Association dated September 2017.

Trustee Selection Methods

In accordance with the Constitution, the trustees retire by rotation and, being eligible, offer themselves for re-election.

Statement of Trustees' Responsibilities

The trustees (who are also the directors of Black Mountain Shared Space for the purposes of company law) are responsible for preparing the Trustees' Report and the financial statements in accordance with applicable law and United Kingdom Accounting Standards (United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice).

Company law requires the trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year. Under company law the trustees must not approve the financial statement unless they are satisfied that they give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charitable company and of the incoming resources and application of resources, including the income and expenditure, of the charitable company for that period. In preparing the financial statements the trustees are required to:

make judgments and accounting estimates that are reasonable and prudent; and

The trustees are responsible for keeping adequate accounting records which disclose with reasonable accuracy at anytime the financial position of the charitable company and to enable them to ensure that the accounts comply with the Companies Act 2006. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the company and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.

Small Company Rules

This report has been prepared in accordance with the special provisions relating to companies subject to the small companies regime within Part 15 of the Companies Act 2006.
