Description and Purpose
Public Benefit Statement
The purpose of The Eglinton Annual Show is -
The advancement of citizenship and community development.
The direct benefits which flow from this purpose are increased community participation in
Horticulture, Home baking, Art, Photography and Craft for exclusively charitable purposes by
The provision of an annual motivational event (The Eglinton Annual Show).
The promotion of social inclusion and a volunteering ethos also further inspire civic values and community activities within the Eglinton and Derry City/Strabane Council Area.
These benefits are evidenced by continued high numbers of class entries and visitors on show day.
Our committee and volunteer numbers are well maintained, and our social media and local newspaper feedback remain very positive.
The Trustees have had ongoing regard for The Charity Commission’s Public Benefit Requirement Statutory Guidance and are satisfied that: -
There is no harm flowing from the above purpose.
Beneficiaries of this purpose are:
All age groups resident in the Derry City and Strabane Council Area.
A private benefit may arise for committee members from time to time in that they may avail of Training Programmes in matters such as governance or First Aid, but this benefit is necessary to ensure the efficient provision of benefit to our community and is entirely incidental.
Structure and Management of Eglinton Annual Show

Membership is open to all inhabitants living within the area who subscribe to the objectives of
The Eglinton Annual Show
Over and above the 9committee members who are trustees we have 5 further committee members.
We meet monthly.
There are 25(approx..)further volunteers who help us on The Show Weekend to set up ,Judge categories ,Take entries etc.
Activities and Objectives
Our 21/22 year began with some uncertainty as our Annual Show had been cancelled in both September 2019 and 2020 due to Covid 19.

2 Christmas Eve Santa Tour of Eglinton Village
- 3 Eglinton Annual Show could go ahead decision made- February.
4 Show committee members participation in Eglinton Village Charity Quiz Nights-March.
5 Committee participation in the organisation of a fundraising walk around Eglinton Village (in conjunction with 2 local primary schools and the running club) in aid of The Disasters Emergency Fund-April
- 6 The Heritage Map sign -Erected outside the Playpark in the centre of Eglinton-June.
7 Eglinton Annual Show took place on Saturday 3[rd] September 2022
1 Illuminate Eglinton
Individual households registered their Christmas Light displays to appear on a trail map between 15[th] and 31[st] December.
Also Elves were placed in the windows of 8 Main Street businesses, each holding a different letter of a familiar Christmas word to provide families with a challenge whilst out walking over the Christmas period.
The Benefit provided by this activity was
An opportunity for our community to display their artistic craft skills and to socially interact while viewing the displays and Elf letters.
Evidenced by positive social media and in-person feedback. We were also able to make a £200 donation to The Foyle Food Bank.
2 Christmas Eve Santa Tour
A member of our committee provided an open backed vehicle for Santa to tour round the Village so that children of all ages could see him at close-hand on Christmas Eve. Santa’s route and timings were displayed in advance on our website.

3 Decision taken that The Eglinton annual Show could go ahead in 2022
Our February meeting was momentous in view of the fact that Covid 19 had , understandably caused our show to be cancelled in both 2020 and 2021.
4 Show committee members participate in weekly Village Charity Quiz nights in March
£860 was raised to ensure our ability to maintain the Defibrillator in the Village. Mainly to pay for the replacement of the expensive pads each time it is used or when they go out of date.We also took the decision to provide paediatric pads in addition to adult ones.
The Benefit of this Activity was the promotion of a sense of Citizenship and the development of a community ethos.
in 5 Participation in the organising of a Fundraising walk around Eglinton
conjunction with the 2 village primary schools and the local running club. Participants were able to complete as many or as few laps of the village heart as their age and/or ability allowed. A significant donation was made to the Disasters Emergency Committee Fund .
The Benefit of this activity was -The promotion of a volunteering and community ethos.
6 Heritage Map Installation
The erection of the Heritage Map in June outside the village playpark was the culmination of a great deal of work by the show sub committee and provided a great source of information for both residents and visitors.
The Benefit of this activity was the promotion of a volunteering Ethos.
7 Eglinton Annual Show Day
Took place on Saturday 3[rd] September 2022 in the paddock in the centre of the village.
The committee were involved with both setting up the day before and tidying up the day afer in addition to the running of the show on the day.
The Benefit of the Event is The advancement of Citizenship and Community development ,
Evidenced by the number of entries having increased by 50 since 2019 (despite heavy rain)
And positive media feedback.
The possibility of harm flowing from the purposes of The Eglinton Annual Show Charity remains an important consideration for the Trustees and none has been noted.

Statement of the Trustees Responsibilities
The Trustees are responsible for the preparation of the annual report and financial statements of
The Eglinton Annual Show in keeping with accepted accounting practice.
As the total annual income of The Eglinton Annual Show was £15,662 for the year ending 31[st] October 2022 the trustees have prepared
Receipts and Payments accounts & A statement of assets and liabilities
In addition, Part B of the Monitoring return will be completed,
In keeping with The Commission Guidance.
The Trustees are responsible for keeping adequate accounting records that are sufficient to show and explain the Charity’s transactions and disclose with reasonable accuracy, at any time, it’s financial position.
They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charity and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.
