OBJECTS
The Sodety is established to promote the advancement of the arts, culture and
heritsge; and to encourage participation in arts, crafts and cultural activities, and in particular
to, promote the study of and encouragement of public Interest in the hlstory, folklore,
archaeology and antiquities of the region and arourKI Aughnacloy area and Its environs
(hereinafter called the 'area of benefit.).

Establish a Society Archive.
Provide, assist in providing or secure the provision of social, educational and
recreational facllltles for the beneflt of the general publlc In the area of benefit.
Provide, maintain and equlp or assist In the provision, maintenance and
equipment of, premises and faciliti8S to carry out the objects of the Society.
(iv)
Promote and cary out, or assist in promoting and carrying out research,
research papers, 8uNeys and investigations and publish the useful results
thereof.
(v)
Organise or assist in organising meetings. lectures, classes and exhibitions,
and publish or assist in publishing reports, periodicals, recordings, books or
other documents of information.
(vl)
Obtain, collect and receive money by ways of grants, donations, bequests,
legacies or other lawful methods provlded that the Society shall not undertake
any permanent trading activities and shall confonn to any relevant requirements
of the law.
(vii) Purchase, lake on lease or in exchange, hire or otherwise acquire any real or
personal property and any rights and privileges necessary for the promotion of
the above objects and construct, maintsin and alter any buildings or erections
which the Society may think necessary for the promotion of its objects.

Achievoments and Porfonnanco
The season commenced on 11 April 2023 wihth Society members bringing along Objects ,
artefacts and photographs from a bygone era, many of which stimulated lively discussion.
May 13 2023: 48 society members and friends travelled to by coach to Tattykeel house,
Omagh for a guided garden tour followed by morning coffee.. Onward to Oakfield Gardens ,
Co Donegal and home via Castlederg for evening meal.
June 13 2023 Another afternoon l evening bus tour to the Dunmoyle area with 48
participants . Tour led by local Historian , Mr. Pat Montague.
Sept 12 2023 Talk by Mr. Tommy Barr on ° Heritage Paintings, from the Stone Age to
The Troubles.

Oct 3° 2023 . Talk by Ms Elleen Quinn ( Kileeshill and Clonaneese Historical Society) on
The life and works of Archbishop Kelly from Kileeshill Parish.

Nov 14 2023.. A society member Mrs Doreen Donaldson entertained us with poems she
has written herself and explained how she was inspired to take up poetry writing.
Dec 12 2023 . Aughnacloy Goff Club for a Christmas buffet followed by Scottish and Irish
dancing.
Feb 3 2024 . A. G. M. Chaired by Dr. Liam Campbell > all society officers re-elected.Dr.
Campbell then delivered a talk entitled ' Rivers and Cultures, Connections or Dividers.
March 12 :Talk by Dr. Paddy Fitzgerald on Archbishop John Joseph Hughes the first Roman
Catholic Archbishop of New York.
April 9 2024 . Local historian Mr. Josh Cuddy gave the final talk of the season. A brief
history of Dungannon, from its pagan and Celtic roots all the way up to The flight of the Earls
and the era of the Ranfurtys.
The society feels that we have met our aims as laid out above as well as contributing to
reducing feelings of social isolation and loneliness in the Aughnacloy area through a mixture
of educational and social events.
We continue to promote cultural events in the area by email and social media.

The commltte8 at all tlmes have had regard for the PubliG Benefit Guidance a8 issued by the
Charity Commission(Nl) in all decisions whare the guldance was relevant.
Financial position has been maintained in accordance with guid81ines as set out in our
constitution.
The work of Aughnacloy Historical Society is only possible with the support of the
membership who continue to support us year after year and to whom we are indebted.
The Charlty has considered the Charlty Commission for Northern Ireland's guidance on
Public Benefit to ensure that the activities entered Into during the year have helped to achieve
the Charity's objectives and activities , as well as providing public benefil.

The charity is govemed by its constltution.
Statement of Trustee's Responslbllltles
The Trustees are responslble for preparing the Trustee's Report and the statement of receipts
and paymenls as well as the statement of assets and liabilities for each financial year.
The Trustees are responsible for keeping accountlng records that are SLrfficlent to show and
explain the Gharity's transactions , and disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the
assels and liabilities of the charity. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the
charity and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud ar
other irregularities.
