Emerge Counselling Services is a company limtted by guarantee govemed by its memorandum and
articles of association dated 24th June 2019. It is a charity registered with the charity commission of
Northern Ireland. Membership consists of 6 members, each of whom agrees to contribute £1 in the
evenl of the charity winding up.
Appolntment of Trustees
The company is managed by a Management Committ8e (Board of Directors) who ar8 electgd at the
Annual General Meeting lo hold office for one year and are eligible for re-election.
Inlerim
appointments can be made durlng the year by the Management Committee. Anyone appointed in
this way has to present themselves for re-election in the same way as other existing members of the
Management Committee at the Annual General Meeting.
Trustees wlll recruit and select new trustees as required. New trustees arè recrulted on the relevance
of their skills and their potential to be able to make a helpful ¢ontribution to the governance of the
charity and Gompany law, the content of the memorandum and articles of association. the Committe8
and decision making process, the business plan and recent financial performance of the charbty.
Governance training is arranged as appropriat8 for new trustees.
Trustees Rok and Responslbllltles
The Directors, who are also the charivs trustees. are the key management personnel of the charity
and are responsible for directing, controlling and running the chartty on a day to day basis. The
Directors meet on a monthly to quarterly basis to fulfil those obligations. The organisation has no
paid employees and its activities are undertaken by volunteers and where appropriate, by external
facilitators. None of the Directors receive remuneration or oth8r ben8fils from their work with the
charity.
Directors are responsible for the establishment of policies, systems and procedures for the good
govemance of the charity and for ensuring that any risk to the charity, including financial, operational
and reputstional risks. are identified and mitigated by having sound management processes in place.
The main risk identified is financial and as the charbty continues to grow, community donations
increase, however. grant income has been identified and th8 growing n8ed to increase successful
funding appliGation8 and corptsrate membe&r8hip8_ This risk 18 8ddre?8ed by budget planning and
control, maintaining an adequate level of reserves and by seeking ways of generating new income
streams Ihat will help the organisation to become more self-sustaining thus creating a stable future for
the charity-
Operational risks are addressed by maintaining relevant policies on hèalth and safety, safeguarding of
children and vulnerable persons and 8nsuring that relevant volunteers follow a code of conduct which
incorporat8s bast practice in volunteering. Training is provided for volunteers on hearth and safety, first
aid. mental health and well-being. Child protection and safeguarding vulnerable person5.

Objoctives and activitles
Tha purposes of the charity is to improve mental health and well-being, to prevent suicide and
self-harm, to provide bespoke training and infonnation, to create a safe space for peoplelpèrson in
crisis. and to promote good community relations, equality and diversity.
In fulfilling our objectlves and planning our activities for the year the trustees had regard to the charity
commissions guidan￿ on public benefit for the charitable purposes in which w8 are engaged.
The strategi8S 8mployed to achi8ve the charities aims and objectNes are to work in partnership with
other organisation's to build capacity to deliver services for the benefil of local people within our
community and su￿Ound1ng areas.
Whilst following covid guid8lines set out by PHA, we started the year by our CEO, Samanlha Evans
being interviewed by The New Leaf Podcast. This interview was to create awareness of the work
Emerge offers to th8 Community and to provide support and coplng methods during the pandemic.
In April 2021, we launched our Mental Health Champions project. where individuals in the local
community were identified and presented with gratitude ¢ertificatss for th8ir contributions in supporting
Emerge. Our aim was to praise the individuals, to engage more in the community and to promote our
soclal media outlets.
When covid restrictions were reduced, our AGM was held in Trinity Methodist Church hall on 7th June.
An overview of the work we had achi8ved to date was given. accounts displayed and explain8d.
Directors were Ire)elected followed by three guest speakers. Tea, coffee and biscuits were provided.
For Mens Mental Health w88k we promoted self-car8 for our male clients by collaborating with The
Hygiene Bank Moira whom supplied free health and beauty products, we continue to welcome the
working relationship for the benefit of all our cllenls. Cut and Grind Salon in Lisburn offered free hair
cuts to our male clients, whilst Mane Barber Lounge offered their ServI￿S for male clients struggling
with anxiety. All contributions to this project were promoted through social media.

Achiovemenls and porfornianco
In June we welcomed yOLSng people from Tonagh Community Centre where we facilitated mental
health awareness training led by our art therapists to deliver a unique creative style of Leaming. On
October 24th, the same training was delivered on sit8 to young members of Mccullagh's Boxing Club.
Both events were received by enthusiasm and posittve engagement from all young people involved.
We continued to d81ivar OLfr suicide and s8lf-hami prevention trainlng to groups and businasses within
our community.
We were privileged to attend Hillsborough Boys FC colour run in September and Naomh Padraig's
evening vigil. creating hope through action on Suicide Prevention Day.
Thanks to Harry McGarrity and Band. we attended our first ever Gala held in Stormont Hotel on the
6th November. The Gala was well attend8d and enjoyed by all.
Wè are grateful for the support Emerge has rèceived over this year. Lamb8g Orange and Blu6 Flut8
Band, Tucker walks the Lough, The Big Dander. The Three Peak challenge completed by the Sloan
brothers. On Track Technicians Golf Day, Dromore Amat8ur FC charity football match, Derriaghy
Cricket Club and The Gary Lutton Memorial Day. These events from our community have created
awareness of our services and much needed financial support throughout the year.
In September, The Light Body foundation made contact with our office and awarded us £10,000 of
unrestricted funds. We were 8Xtr8mely grateful and humbl8d by this. Our truste8's agreed to allocate
all donation to overhead costs.
We held our annual Tree of Light Servi￿ in First Lisbum Pr8sbyierian Church on Saturday the 11th
December at 6pm. We welcomed bereaved families and people who have been affected by suicide.
Lisburn City Council Mayor and other local councillor's w8r8 in attendan￿.
We held our first Christmas Toy appeal were we received many donations, the largest group donation
being from Hillsborough Boys FC. All donations w8r8 distributed to local families who were struggling
financially to purchase Christmas gifts for their children.
This year we have seen a huge increase in demand for our servI￿s. We continue to grow as a team,
deliver s6rvices in 8 timely mann8r and look fO￿ard to the year ahead.
Flnancial revlaw
Total income of the charity in 2022 was £97.459, up from £65,824 in 2021.This includes income from
donations of £66,128, up from £43,538 in 2021. income from grants of £18,137. up from £16.033 in
2021.The surplus of income over expenditure for the year was £14,258 (2021: £18,812).
At 28th February 2022, charity hald total reserves of £40.418, of which £40.418 is unrestricted. This is
equivalent to approximately six months expenditure, which the trusteès consider a sufficient level of
