INTRODUCTION

This is the annual report for Sister Anna Chaplaincy Charitable Trust for the year ended 31 March 2025.

This format is in accordance with the requirements of the "Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice Applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK & Republic of Ireland (FRS 102)" ("The Charity SORP").

STRUCTURE, GOVERANCE AND MANAGEMENT

The Sister Anna Charitable Trust (SACT) was a restricted Capital Fund set up with IEF, by the late Sister Anna, in 2004. The interest from the Trust was used to contribute to the support of Lagan College Chaplains. On 2 February 2021, with agreement of the former Trustees of the Sister Anna Charitable Trust, the IEF transferred this restricted Capital Fund to a newly formed Charity, The Sister Anna Chaplaincy Charitable Trust, (SACCT) to be administered by Lagan College Limited.

The Trust Board are recruited by Lagan College Limited. The Board of Trustees is made up of three Directors and the Treasurer of Lagan College Limited. Each Trustee may serve three years after which period they may put themselves forward for reappointment for a second further term, however no member may serve longer than six years or, if resolved by all the then Directors of Lagan College Limited in accordance with the Articles of Association, nine years continuously.

The Trustees will meet on an annual basis to agree the broad strategy and areas of activity for the Fund including fundraising, investments performance, reserves, risk management and other policies and procedures.

This meeting may occur via video conferencing.

The Board of Trustees will continue to apply the interest from the funds for the purpose intended by the founders of the Sister Anna Charitable Trust.

ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE

The Sister Anna Chaplaincy Charitable Trust was set up on 6 March 2020. No transactions occurred until 2 February 2021 when the Sister Anna Chaplaincy Charitable Trust portfolio was opened and funds transferred from IEF.

The trust funds are managed by Davy Private Clients UK. The total transfer value was £189,542.

During the year from 1 April 2025 to 31 March 2025 the fund gained £7,675

Market Performance has led to an increase in the capital sum to £216,475 at 31 March 2025.

Public Benefit Statement

The Trustees of Sister Anna Chaplaincy Charitable Trust confirm that they have complied with their duty under section 4(6) of the Charities Act (Northern Ireland) 2008 to have regard to the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland's guidance on public benefit and that the public benefit requirement has informed the activities of the charitable company in the year ended 31 March 2025.

The direct benefits flowing from this purpose include the education of children at Lagan College by providing greater opportunities for the students to learn more effectively by providing a safe space to nurture the minds, hearts and spirits of the students. The advancement of religion, the advancement of human rights, conflict resolution or reconciliation or the promotion of religious or racial harmony and equality or diversity. The beneficiaries are the children, parents and staff of Lagan College Belfast.

We have examined your charitable trust's financial statements as required under section 65 of the Charities Act (Northern Ireland) 2008 and our examination was carried out in accordance with the general directions given by the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland under section 65(9)(b) of the Charities Act (Northern Ireland) 2008. The examination included a review of the accounting records kept by the charitable trust and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeking explanations from you as charity trustees concerning any such matters.

1. Accounting Policies

1 (a) Basis of Preparation

The financial statements have been prepared under the historic cost convention, with the exception of investments which are included at fair value.

These financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the Statement of Recommended Practice: Accounting and Reporting by Charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102), with the Financial Reporting Standard; FRS 102 and with the requirements of the Charities Act (Northern Ireland) 2008.

The financial statements have been presented in sterling which is the functional currency of the entity.

The trust's funds meet the definition of a public benefit entity under FRS 102. The direct benefits flowing from this purpose include the education of children at Lagan College by providing greater opportunities for the students to learn more effectively by providing a safe space to nurture the minds, hearts and spirits of the students. The advancement of religion, the advancement of human rights, conflict resolution or reconciliation or the promotion of religious or racial harmony and equality or diversity. The beneficiaries are the children, parents and staff of Lagan College Belfast.

The financial statements have been prepared on a going concern basis.

1 (b) Fund Structure

Where there is a legal restriction on the purpose for which a fund may be used, the fund is classified either as an endowment fund, where the donor has expressly provided that only the income of the F fund may be expended, or as a restricted fund, where the donor has provided for the donation to be spent in furtherance of a specified charitable purpose.

All funds are held in the restricted fund category.

1 (c) Incoming Resources

All incoming resources are recognised once the charity has entitlement to the resources, it is probable (more likely than not) that the resources will be received, and the monetary value of incoming resources can be measured with sufficient reliability.

The investment income is earned from holding assets for investment purposes and includes dividends and interest.

1 (d) Resources Expended

Expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis and classified under headings that aggregate all costs related to that category.

1 (e) Fixed Asset Investments

Investments are stated at market value as at the statement of financial position date. The statement of Financial Activities includes the net gains and losses arising on revaluations and disposals throughout the period.

1 (f) Realised Gains and Losses

All gains and losses are taken to the statement of Financial Activities as they arise.

1 (g) Going Concern

There are no material uncertainties about the trust funds ability to continue as a going concern. The most significant area of uncertainty that affects the carrying value of assets held by the trust are the level of investment return and the performance of investment markets.
