The trustees of Pobal ar a'n Iul are pleased to submit their repoi't and accounts for the pei'iod
January 1st 2024 to December 31 st 2024.
Structure, Governance, and Management
Pobal ai. a'n Iul is govei'ned by a constitution. The association is run by 3 trustees who have
been in post since the groiip was i'egistered with the Chai'ity Commission.
Meetings
The ti'ustees meet as reqiiired throughoiit the year and at each meeting the treasurer gives an
updated income and expenditure review.
Related Organisations
Pobal ai. a'n Iul works very closely with both Naiscoil na gcrann and Gaelscoil na gcrann.
We co-opei'ate with each other in the fields of education and in promotion of the Ii'ish
langiiage. We also woi"k with Ogras na homai in promoting the Irish language among young
people.
Purpose
The purpose of Pobal ai. a'n Iul is to advance Irish language and culture, community
development and improvement, and the promotion of the benefit of the inhabitants aiid
visitoi-s ("hei'einaftei' called the benefLciaries") in particularly but not exclusively of Omagh
and siirrounding areas (hereinafter called the 'area of benefit") without distinction of age,
gender, sexuality, disability, nationality, ethnic identity, race, political oi. religious opinion,
by associating the statutory authorities, community and voluntary organisations and the
inhabitants in a common effort to advance education and community development and to
provide facilities in the intei'ests of social welfare for recreation or other leisuir-time
occupation, with the object of impi'oving the conditions of life
Public Benefit Statement
The sole aiin of Pobal ar a'n Iul's activities is to benefit others. This organisation, to date, has
provided a wide l'ange of activities and di'awn down funding which has been invested within
the community. We provide pai'ent and toddler gi'oups, family activities, adult education
activities, advocacy, and community development initiatives.

All our activities have been cari'ied out foi. the benefit of others within the coinmunity. Pobal
ar a'n Iul maintains, manages, and co-operates with any local authority oi statutory bodies in
the maintenance of a pi'operty(s) for activities pi'oinoted by the company including but not
limited to cominunity business, education programmes, youth activities, community
wellbeing activities and community education activities and we promote the common
hei'itage and historical links between the main area of benefit and the rest of Ireland,
Scotland, the Isle of Man.
There is no private benefit to any private individual.
Summary of Main Activities
We provide parent and toddler groups, family activities, adult education activities, advocacy,
youth activities and community development initiatives. Our philosophy is to offei. access to
all regardless of pei'sonal circumstances, race, gender, ability, or faith. We mainly operate in
the Omagh area however visitors from further afield are always welcome.
During this year, we continued with our Fonduireacht Feamainne (Seaweed Foundation) third
level scholarship foi. 2024, pi'oviding finaiicial support foi. local students to continue to study
Irish at university. We also provided scholarships to help students of all ages attend Ii'ish
language summei. coui'ses in the Gaeltacht.
Oiir yoiing Irish speakers are at the heart of our work and we ran weekly clubanna oige
(youth clubs) to coincide with the school terms, supported by our yoiith leaders. We
organised oiir Campa Samhi'aidh (Summei. Camp) for pi'imary school children and Cairde le
cheile summei, scheme for secondary level children. Vai'ious other events were cai'i'ied out
also including quiz's, youth trips etc. All of our youth activities are carried out in
co-operation with Ogras na homai.
Our parent and toddler groups met weekly which provided families an opportunity to bring
Irish into theii. family at an early age and we were able to connect these families to Gaelscoil
na gcrann for further infoi'mation.
Thi'oughout 2024 we hosted a Ciorcal comhra every Saturday to encourage people of all
levels to use their language outside the classroom. We organised a lon le Gaeilge (lunch with
Irish) in December 2024. It was an opportunity to celebrate and thank those who had
participated in the Ciorcal comhra throughout the year. It was a community and Family event
and pi'ovided opportunities for play and conversation i nGaeilge.
Dianchursal aon lae (Intensive one day langiiage courses) were held throughout the yeai.
catering to all levels of learnei.. In September we undeitook a new initiative to provide
Ranganna Amhranaiochta (Singing classes through Irish), these ran once a week from
September through to December.
In November, we oi'ganised a very successful trip to the Gaeltacht including a day course for
oui. adult learners. They spent 2 nights in the Donegal Gaeltacht getting the opportunity to
immerse themselves in the language by using Ii'ish every day and learning from the locals.
Finally, we oi'ganised a Chiistmas tiip to Dundonald and the Chi'istmas markets for oiir youth
club families.

We continiie to engage with other oi'ganisations in the community to help promote the Irish
language. We inet with the Ii'ish language team within the Fermanagh and Omagh disti'ict
council to discuss the promotion of the language in the area.
These comprise some of the main activities and highliglits during 2024. As well as these
events we also pi'ovide regular promotion of Irish language activities provided by ourselves
and various gi'oups in the locality on our social media and website, to help as many people as
we can access the Ii'ish language.
Accommodation
This organisation, to date, has provided a wide range of activities and drawn down funding
which has been invested within the community, We provide parent and toddlei. groups,
family activities, adult education activities, youth activities, advocacy and community
development initiatives. We are currently based in and operate oiit of Dun Uladh Cultural and
Heritage Centre.
Financial Review
Pobal ai. a'n lul has two bank accounts, one for our main funding from Foras na Gaeilge
Sceim Pobal Gaeilge, the other foi. all othei. funding. Income for the year totalled £45,385.
This comprises £38,591 core funding (Account 2) and £6,794 (Account l) from a variety of
other sources,. Foras na Gaeilge Summer Camp Scheme. Foras na Gaeilge Youth Scheme.
Seaweed Foundation and monies i'eceived from fees for events.
Expenditiire for the year totalled £47,607, comprising £31,541 from Account 2 and £16,066
from Account l. The latter was spent on Fonduireacht na Feamainne scholarships, Suininer
Camps and bank and accountancy fees.
Going Concern
The Trustees have reviewed Pobal ai. a'n lul's planned expenditure for the year ahead and are
satisfIed that there are adequate funds in place to ensure that the organisation can continue its
activities and the financial statements for the year ended 2024 can be signed off as a going
concei'n,
Reserves Policy
The reserves of the chai'ity al'e set by the Trustees. The reserves will be held primarily as cash. The
level of reserves will be reviewed annually as part of the management process.
The Trustees aim to maintain siifficient free resei'ves in unrestricted funds to bridge any funding gaps
experiences by the organisation and to mitigate tlie risks and costs of iinplanned closui'e of the
oi'ganisation.
Statement of Trustee Responsibilities
The Triistees al'e responsible for pi'eparing the annual repoit and the financial statements of
the organisation in accoi'dance with applicable law and generally accepted accounting
practice.
As the organisation's total income does not exceed £250,000, the Trustees have elected under
Section 64(3) of the Charities Act (Noi'thern Ireland) 208 to prepare a receipts and payment
account and a statement of assets and liabilities.

The Ti'ustees al'e responsible foi, keeping adequate accounting records tliat are sufficient to
show and explain the organisation's ti'ansactions and disclose with i'easonable acciiracy at any
time its financial position. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the
organisation and hence for taking reasonable steps foi. the prevention and detection of fraiid
and other ii'irgularities.
Gifts and Support in Kind
In assessing the finances and assets of the society it must be noted that trustees and
committee meinbers give a gi'eat deal of support in kind. Our trustees will often incur printing
and postage costs which they do not claim, and they also give genei'ously of theii. time
oi'ganising community access and helping with ongoing activities. The trustees wish to record
their gi'atitude.

December 2024, which al'e set out on the following pages.
Respeetivc responsibilities of charity trustees and examiner
As the chai-ity's ti'ustees you al'e responsible for the pi'epai-ation of the accounts in accordance
with the Charities Act (Northei'n Ireland) 2008. It is my responsibility to:
examine the accounts under section 65 of the Charities Act
follow the procedures laid down in the geneiaL Directions given by the Commission under
section 65(9)(b) of the Charities Act
state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
Basis of independent examiner's report
I have examined your chai'ity accounts as requii'ed under section 65 of the Charities Act and
my examination was cai'ried out in accordance with the geneial Dii'ections given by the
Charity Commission for Northern Ireland under section 65(9)(b) of the Charities Act. My
examination included a review of the accounting recoi'ds kept by the charity and a
coinparison of the accounts presented with those i'ecoi'ds. It also included consideration of
any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as
charity ti'ustees concerning any such matters. My i'ole is to state whether any matei'ial matters
have come to my attention giving me cause to believe:
l. That accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 63 of the
Chai'ities Act
2. That the accounts do not accoi'd with those accounting records
3. That the accounts do not comply with the accounting requirements of the Charities
Act
4. That thei'e is fuither information needed for a proper understanding of the accounts
to be reached.

I have completed my examination and have no concei'ns in i'espect of the matters (l) to (4)
listed above and, in connection with following the Directions of the Charity Commission for
