Charity Information, Purposes and Public Benefit .
Kingdom Pre-school Playgroup is run by a voluntary committee. The committee consists of people from the local community, many of whom have had children attend the playgroup in previous years. The constitution of Kingdom Preschool Playgroup was drawn up in accordance with the values of Early Years, the Organisation for Young Children. The purposes of the charity as outlined in the constitution are;
The Group is established to promote play based learning environments for all children under statutory school age (hereinafter referred to as the beneficiaries) of the area serving Kilkeel and its surrounding environs in County Down (hereinafter called the ''area of benefit'') without distinction of age, gender, marital status, disability, sexual orientation, nationality, ethnic identity, political or religious opinion, by associating the statutory authorities, community and voluntary organisations and the inhabitants in a common effort to advance education, and in particular: a) to advance the education of the beneficiaries by the provision of safe and satisfying group play, with the right of parents/carers to take responsibility for and to become involved in the activities of the group, and to promote the preservation of health of the beneficiaries, and b) to support the values and principles of Early Years .
Kingdom Preschool Playgroup provides playgroup activities for up to 20 preschool children. The direct benefit which flows from this purpose is that children under statutory school age will have the opportunity to avail of pre-school education (in accordance CCEA 2018 Curricular Guidance for Pre-school Education). Young children will be able to experience a broad range of play activities which support their learning and development, and health and wellbeing. There is no harm arising from any of the purposes. The charities beneficiaries are preschool children 0-5 and their parents. There is no private benefit flowing from these purposes.
This year, 17 preschool children were enrolled with the playgroup and benefited from the activities provided following the preschool curricular guidance (CCEA 2018). Everyone involved in the Playgroup was glad the service was able to reopen fully after the covid lockdowns and felt more than ever that the provision was a vital service within the community. We continue to be registered with Southern Health and Social Services Trust and have continued membership of Early Years the Organisation for Young Children.
Kingdom playgroup follows guidance from these organisations and the Education Authority in relation to safeguarding children, education and learning, and health and safety.
A review of the charity’s financial position at the end of the year.
The overall income for the year was £ 45,397 and the expenditure was £ 43,421 .All funding was used to support the playgroup provision, and was used for general running costs, staffing costs, costs of play equipment and materials, and snack for children. The group received funding for 20 children from the Pre-school Expansion Programme. Looking forward to the next financial year, the charity has no debt and further funding from the PSEP programme will be due in the Autumn term. In accordance with the reserves policy, any surplus funding will be used to sustain the future running of the playgroup and to pay for unexpected expenses that may arise.
