The aims of THE ACTIVE CITIZENS ENGAGED are: To empower, advocate and promote inclusion by sharing resources, information and activities for the Minority Ethnic and local community living in the North West region of Northern Ireland and in particular: Objectives: • To contribute to the social and personal development of members of the local and Minority Ethnic Community and local community by empowering and engaging older people in decision making. • To promote understanding and the mutual respect of cultures, traditions, diversity and offer a welcoming shared space for diversity and inclusion in the region. • To promote and celebrate the value of our diverse cultures, resources and practices. • To promote the impact of social and personal considerations on life expectancy by combating loneliness and social isolation. • To develop a range of intervention and intergenerational projects to help increase the positive relations for people living in the North West region of Northern Ireland. • To work in partnership with charity and voluntary organisations, their representatives and officials, local businesses and other relevant organisations and agencies to formulate and implement constructive strategies to limit the impact of marginalisation and isolation in the North West region of Northern Ireland by promoting a positive engagement with all communities. • To raise awareness among the wider community of the socio-economic, environmental and ecological impact of aging in a modern world. • To involve a wide range of local people in a community-driven partnerships to promote active citizenship for everyone. • To promote a greater need for public and statutory authorities to work with older people in planning future service needs in order to ensure ‘lifetime communities’ – communities that work for people throughout their lives.
