Congo Initiative - UK Directors, and Trustees, report for the year ended 31 December 2023 The Directors and Trustees present their rewrt and the unaudited accounts for the year ended 31 December 2023. StNCture¥ governance and management The charity is an incorp¢yated body and is under the control of the Directors and Trustees as detailed ¢)ut in the charity constitution. The tharity is recognised as a charity under the Charity Commission for Northem Ireland as at the date of registration being the 6 February 2019. Organlsatlon The Directors and Trustees who have served durfng the ye8r are detsiled out on page 3. The Dlrectors and Trustees are expected to play several key roles in the running of the charity including fundraising, governance, financial budgeting and audib'ng, evaluation and ass8ssm8nt of the organisation's Mission and strategic goals, resource dev8lopm8n( public policy and advocacy, and marketing and communication, Public Benoflt The directors and Trustees belleve that both the purposes and the actfvltles undertaken in this last financial year dearly satisfy both ekqments of the public benefft requir8ment. Funds have been raised from sma51 trusts and foundations in the UK, churches and individuals. Advocacy has contlnued in the UK through faith groups and interestsd parties although fundraising activities have been curtailed due to the Covid pandemic lockdown. Work in the eastern part of the Democratlc Republtc of Congo has b8en curtailed due to continued ethnic violence and insecurfty. With the armed inteNention8 of the annies of Kenya and Uganda in support of the national amiy, ther8 is the danger of increased military activity. Howèver, in spit8 of these difficulties, various CI-UK funded projects have continued such as the 0 primary schools, the counselling cenlre, the Mangina Irade school, and Ihe Université Chrétienne Bilingue du Congo (UCBC). A campus-wide clean water system has been completed at UCBC Ih a deep well watsr pump. Land has been purthased for the Mangina trade sch¢JoI wrth money from the Bob MG411ister Memorial Fund. Statement of Public Benefit The charity is organi8ed and shall be operated exdusively for charitable, scientific, lit8racy, 8ducation and religious purposes and to foster prevention of cnJ81ty to childr8n, gender abuse and aclively support environmental prote¢tlon. These benefits are evidenced by regular and substsntial support, both finanaal and practical for a number of key projects. Currently the Charity is actively engaged in developing a trade school in addition to continued support of La Charité primary school and the UCBC university. The charities beneficiaries are all those whose needs bring them within the ambit of the charity's support. Any private benefit is incidentsl and necessary to ensur6 the organisatlon achieves its purFM)se. All funds recelved by the charity shall be dedicated and invested solely for such purposes. Alms and Objectives The vision of the charity is to mojel, nurture and shape an authentic community of Chrisys followers whose calling is lo transfomi society in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The charity hopes to train and develop strong indigenous leaders to transform their communities in their natj'on of Congo by building civil society on Christian princAples of socials justice for the common good. The overall purpose of Congo Initiative UK is the transfomation of th8 Democratic Republic of Congo through holistic development of leaders who bring hope and healing to individuals. communities and the nation.
Congo Initiative . UK Flnanclal Revlew and Reserves The principle sources of income are mainly fram gifts and donations. The annual accounts show a deficit for the year of £18,250. The trustees still believe that the charity is in a good financial position, The Diwtors and Trustees will continue to actively seek financial support in order to commence new projects in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
