Alexander Dickson Primary School PTA Chairpersons report
September 2024 — August 2025
| would like to welcome you all here this evening to Alexander Dickson Primary Schools PTA annual general meeting and to present my report encompassing September 2024 — August 2025. An extra welcome to those in attendance who aren’t current PTA members, and | hope this meeting tonight gives you an idea to what goes on within our PTA. Thank you for your support here tonight. | would also like to take this opportunity to welcome our new Principal Mrs Shaw, we look forward to working alongside you this coming year. And | would also like to mention Mr Lawther and say a word of thanks to him for the support he gave the PTA in previous years The PTA is extremely proud to be a part of Alexander Dickson Primary School which is held in such high esteem for the all-round education, support and pastoral care it provides to the pupils of Ballgowan village and surrounding communities.
Since the last AGM we have again seena lot of hard work from all staff, pupils and parents in raising important funds for the school. Academic year 24/25 was a very busy year for fundraising but the hard work paid off and we raised a significant amount throughout the year. So thank you to everyone who supported us in anyway.
| have outlined below the activities organised and work carried out by the PTA to meet its main objective of advancing the education of pupils in school through raising funds to purchase educational resources and equipment.

Our fundraising year got off to a great start in September 2024 with our Table Quiz. Once again the support for our quiz was brilliant and we raised over £1000 which was a great way to start our year. Thank you to everyone who came along.
Our Christmas Ballot is always another big event in our calendar and this year was no different. Thanks to the support of our local businesses we had some great prizes up for grabs which made sell the tickets that little bit easier. We tried a few new events this year, one being a Tractor Run. Although we didn’t have as many Tractors or cars as we had hoped for, the support from the community was unbelievable and we still managed to raise over £650.
Another new event was running the Belfast City Marathon. We managed to get 3 marathon runners and 3 relay teams for the day. With help from local businesses and sponsorship from friends and family this really was the biggest fundraiser for the year with over £6000 raised from this event alone. | would just like to say a massive thank you to everyone who stepped forward to run for the school, | hope you enjoyed it as much as| did. Our Halloween Disco, Wacky Hair Day and Movie and Munch nights are always very exciting events for the pupils and we hope they enjoyed these events this year again. These are regular events in our diaries and we hope to keep running these in the future. But of course arguably the most popular event on our calendar, Family Fun Night. Thankfully, even with a the weather looking like it wasn’t going to cooperate, we managed to get through most of the evening without any rain, and as always this event is open to the whole community and as always the community came out and showed their support. Thanks to all this hard work we ended the year with a significant amount in our PTA fund. We have started using some of this money to make improvements in the playground. You’ll have seen the new Sensory Panel’s around the playground, as well as the painting on the playground wall, which was completed by local artist Ben Sinton who is also a past pupil of ADPS. We have more plans for the playground, including new markings to make a football/netball/basketball court as well as letter and number games. We hope to get these completed in academic year 25/26. We have also agreed to fund the subscription to some new Mathematics resources and Book Bags for P1 — P3 which should hopefully be in place soon.
Chairperson closing comments:
| just want to again express my sincere thanks to all members of the PTA for their hard work. Their ideas and willingness to give up their time to run these events is the only reason we can keep raising funds to support our children’s learning. | would like to thank our teachers and classroom
assistants who are always willing to lend a hand when needed. Thank you to the parents who are the ones who buy the tickets so their children can come along to our events. And most importantly the children who at the end of the day are the reason we do this fundraising. We hope you get to enjoy our events but also feel the benefit of our fundraising efforts. Academic year 24/25 was a very busy but very successful year and our local businesses played a huge part in that, so a massive thank you to each and every one of them. With the new academic year comes the return of some of our most popular events and hopefully a few new events again this year and | look forward to working with you all during the incoming school year.
