Introduction
The Bain Charitable Trust was established in 2016 as a vehicle for the distribution of legacies provided for in the wills of Sir George and Lady Bain who were at that time residing in Northern Ireland. In 2020 they moved to Scotland where the trust is now based.
Constitution and Governing Document
The trust is constituted and governed by a trust deed dated 22 November 2016. It was registered with the Charity Commission of Northern Ireland (CCNI) on 16 April 2019. A Supplemental Deed of Amendment, dated 28 February 2024, was drawn up to ensure that the Charity’s governing documents comply with both Scottish and Northern Irish law as the charity is now based in Scotland.
Objectives
The objectives of the Trust are:

To make donations to help with the advancement of education of disadvantaged children in any part of the world and in particular (but without limitation to the trustees’ powers) the relief of need, hardship, suffering, distress of underprivileged, deprived, and abused children.

To provide in any part of the world relief for those who by reason of their age, youth, infirmity, disablement, poverty or social and economic circumstances are suffering hardship or distress or are otherwise in need.

To make donations to any charitable institution or foundation in any part of the world for the purposes and furtherance of such institution’s or foundation’s charitable objects of such
amount or amounts and in such manner generally as the Trustees shall in their absolute discretion determine in each case for the benefit of the public subject to each such charitable institution and/or foundation being charitable in accordance with the relevant local law.
Activity in 2024-25
As the Trust does not engage in fundraising and will have no assets until the death of either Sir George or Lady Bain, it has made no charitable donations during the financial year 2024-25. The trust has therefore made no contribution to public benefit in that period.
Financial Position
The balance in the Trust’s bank account is nil.
