CHAIR’S INTRODUCTION
It gives me great pleasure to introduce the charity’s Trustees’ Annual Report, which sets out, for our supporters and the general public, what we have achieved in the year ended August 31, 2023 and our future plans.
We have continued to build upon previous productions with our Pantomime in January 2023 ‘Aladdin’ which was a success and even saw the international Movie Star James Nesbitt share our stage and for once upstage the Dame. Funds generated from the production were used to produce an even more spectacular Panto in January 2024 ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ and we are now in preproduction on our Panto for January 2025 ‘Rapunzel’.
The Panto is a wonderful production for the whole community and everyone from any background can get involved or simply enjoy what we put on stage. It is such a great community building experience for the children involved and children watching.
We hope to see you all again next year, ‘oh yes we do’.

STRUCTURE GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT
Portrush Theatre Company is a Community Interest Company. The charity is managed by a committee of trustees who are appointed at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the charity.
OBJECTIVES & ACTIVITIES
Objectives of the Society include educating the public in dramatic and operatic arts, to further development of public appreciation and taste in said arts regardless of age, sex, race, political, religious or other opinion in the Causeway Coast and Glens area. Benefits flowing from purposes are enhanced participation by ordinary individuals, development, appreciation of and attendance of arts and particularly enhanced self-esteem, confidence, communication skills, concentration and coordination amongst participants; improved health and wellbeing; greater engagement between communities; increased capacity of individuals and communities in respect of arts and performance; acquisition of musical theatre skills and creation of employment pathways and reduction in negative impacts of social exclusion. We operate to recognised professional standards to inspire our volunteers to increase transferable skills. Other benefits include volunteer training in health/safety, child protection, performance skills, costume/stage craft, scenery production, and make up. Direct benefits which flow from our purposes includes: increased engagement/promotion of public understanding, accessibility, appreciation and enjoyment of arts, encouragement and development of local volunteers of all ages and abilities to develop new skills, talent and creativity and encourage employment; increased engagement and education of children and young people to access, appreciate and enjoy arts and culture laying the foundation for future creativity. Benefits flowing from purpose include promotion of enjoyment, understanding and advancement of the arts and science of music, dance, movement and theatre, for the benefit of general public in Causeway Coast and Glens area through performing or as an audience member or physical in the art and science of music, dance, movement and theatre. These benefits are evidenced through regular internal and external qualitative assessment; regular collation of quantitative data on charitable activities, audiences, and participation; photo and video documentation; regular reporting of charitable activities and financial performance in annual reports, audited annual accounts, and reports to grant funders. The possibility of harm, for example by physical injury incurred by participation in musical performance, dance, movement and theatre, is outweighed by the benefit and significantly reduced by the policies and procedures in place to address such risks, for example safeguarding and child protection policy, risk assessment, health and safety policy, code of conduct for staff and volunteers. The charity's beneficiaries are the general public in the Causeway Coast and Glens Council Area. A private benefit to trustees may arise from our programme of ongoing training in good governance, finance etc. Through this training trustees gain skills and experience which are transferable to other settings. These skills are incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to the beneficiaries.
ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE
The organisation carries out its purpose in the following ways: The organisation develops a yearly Pantomime and plans are in development for Summer Theatre Performances. We also participate in local community events for example 'Pirates of Portrush'. We perform at Christmas light 'switch ons' across the borough and other activities as and when required. The development of these performances includes our volunteers having roles in script development, music production, rehearsals, singing and acting lessons, promotion, costume design, stage craft and audience management. Our organisation is managed and sustained by volunteers and we have people of all ages from the very young upwards all committed to encouraging an interest in and love of the arts and particularity musical drama and theatre.
