## **Conradh na Gaeilge Charn Tóchair** ## **Trustees’ Report** The trustees are pleased to present their report together with the financial statements for the year ending 31[st] December 2023. ## **Reference and Administrative Details:** **Charity Name:** Conradh na Gaeilge Charn Tóchair **Address:** An Carn, 132 Tirkane Road, Maghera, Co Derry, BT46 5NH ## **Trustees who served during the period and to the date of signing this report:** Mr Niall Ó Catháin Mrs Susan Uí Mhianáin Ms Leonne Ní Loinsigh - Resigned 30/9/23 Mr Diarmuid De Brún Mr Pádraig Ó Mianáin Mr Liam Ó Flannagáin ## **Charity Commission Number:** NIC107005 **Independent Examiner:** Paul McKillop, EM Accountants, 2[nd] floor, Gortalowry House, 94 Church Street, Cookstown, Co Tyrone, BT80 8HX. **Bank:** Bank of Ireland, Market Street, Magherafelt, BT45 6EE ## **Objectivities and Activities:** The charity is established to: - (a) Promote the learning of the Irish Language in the Charn Tóchair and Greater County Derry Area and to support other areas wishing to promote the learning of the language irrespective of religious or ethnic background. - (b) Promote opportunities for people of all ages to build their fluency in the language to support their learning and to build a strong functioning Irish-language community and reinstate the Irish language as a living spoken language. - (c) - To promote and encourage parents to avail of Irish-medium Education. - (d) To support families who wish to raise their children through the medium of the Irish language. - (e) To provide after-schools extra-curricular educational activities for children of school age through the Medium of Irish. - (f) To support educational development and personal self development of parents and guardians of children under the age of 18 years. - (g) To promote understanding and tolerance of Irish throughout society to help build a tolerant and plural society. - (h) To undertake an advocacy role for the Irish language learning and promotion with politicians, community leaders and the general public. ## **Charity Structure and Management** Conradh na Gaeilge Charn Tóchair is a registered charity with the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland under charity Number 107005. The charity was set up in 2018 with a formally adopted constitution outlining the objects and powers of the charity. The Trustees meet on a regular basis to discuss the finances and any other issues relating to the day-to-day management of the Charity. ## **Achievement and Performance** In setting our objectives and planning our activities for the year, the Trustees and Committee have given careful consideration to the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland’s public benefit requirement to ensure that the activities have helped to achieve the charity’s purposes and provide a benefit to the beneficiaries. During the year, we supported a wide range of activities and events to encourage and promote the use and learning of Irish within the community. This ranged from supporting pre-school children in a range of events including a regular storytelling, mother and toddlers group, and an annual programme of events for pre-school children and their parents. We also deliver support events for parents of children in Irishmedium Education including Irish language classes for parents and guardians and mentoring for parents and families who speak Irish at home. We have also supported the organisation and delivery of an Irish-language Feis (Féis Charn Tóchair) to allow children attending Irish-medium Education and those learning Irish within the English-medium sector to use their Irish outside a classroom environment. This event and other family events for families of children attending Irish-medium Education help build the fluency and competence of both children and parents and makes a very positive contribution to the Irish medium Education pupil’s education. ## **Financial Review** Financial review for the 12-month period from 1[st] January ’23 to 31[st] December ’23: Total income generated in the period to 31[st] December 2023 was £16,250 of which £9,045 was restricted funds and £7,205 was unrestricted funds. Total expenditure in the period to 31[st] December 2023 was £11,423 of which £7,082 was restricted funds and £4,341 was unrestricted funds. The bank and cash balance as at 31[st] December 2023 was £20,690. ## **Responsibilities of Trustees and Examiner** The charity trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act (Northern Ireland) 2008.
