Trustees Report 2024

1.Background

The Charity received a gift of 6,000 digitized images of the papers of John Carvill, a merchant of Newry. The documents are permanently held by the Paterno Library of State College, Pennsylvania who kindly allowed the student body to scan the materials at the request and at the expense of the Chairperson of the charity at a cost of £10,000.

The Chairperson, Michael McKeown donated the scanned images to the charity.

2. Activity

During the period ending 31/12/2021, an elementary website costing £1,000 was constructed to provide an online housing the images.

During the period ending 31/12/2022, a searchable website was developed at a cost of £2,190

During the period ending 31/12/2023, Volunteers including some of the Trustees began the process of digitising the search criteria to allow accurate and rapid access to individual images. This has proved to be a very labour-intensive process and during the following period, other means is to be sought to expedite this process.

3.Donations

During each period since inception, donations have been well ahead of expenditure and no cost will be contemplated without adequate funds available

4. Future plans

The Trustees are contemplating an approach to the following parties to partner a complete digitisation of the images and with a view to having such adopted by one or both of the parties:

An application for funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund is being considered.

Miss Sinead McAllister was appointed as the Independent Examiner for the accounts for the period ending 31[st] December 2023
