2[nd] Portstewart Rangers report for 2022/2023
We started the year with 4 girls but 6 more joined after October half term and we now have 11 altogether. We’ve been continuing to follow the Guiding programme working on Unit Meeting Activities and Skills Builders as well as enjoying other activities including hockey and volleyball. They especially enjoyed pretending to be Rainbows doing finger painting! They have enjoyed a treasure hunt as well as a murder mystery evening. They’ve tried their hands at crafts, felting, origami, making their own glue and cooking, both indoor and out. There have been a couple of visits from the local family history group where they learned about how to trace their family trees and all gained their Genealogy badges.
They also enjoyed the Ulster Guiding Centenary Challenge - Yesterday, Today, tomorrow.
They’ve done individual badges - cooking, animation, morals and values and selfcare. The girls worked hard on their Event planner and Volunteering interest badges. To this end they held a St Patrick’s Day event on 15[th] March - and raised a magnificent £300 , £200 went to the local Woman’s Aid and £100 to Hannah-Ruth’s trip to the World Scout Jamboree in S. Korea. She had a wonderful experience at this despite the many challenges.
They took part in the County Thinking Day bunting making activity and a couple broke out of the Escape Room! Some have helped with younger girls at Rainbow and Brownie meetings as well as Holiday Guiding. They’ve also delivered a yoga evening for the Guides and joined them on the Lorne Sponsored Walk. A couple of the girls enjoyed a night at the first Ranger Prom.
One of the Rangers was successful in being selected to go to the World Scout Jamboree in August and another is part of the Young Member Executive Girlguiding Ulster.
3 of the girls have completed their Gold Duke of Edinburgh expedition and are working on completing the rest of the syllabus. 4 others completed their Bronze award with one still working on it. 2 of these girls have started their Silver award. We now have 4 more (one Ranger and 3 Guides) who successfully completed their Bronze expedition.
