The Presbyterian Church in Ireland - Presbytery of Down – Annual Report
The Presbytery has met on six occasions in the past year to conduct the Business of the Presbytery, overseeing the work, witness and outreach of the congregations under its care. This includes providing the necessary pastoral and pulpit supply in congregations where there is a ministerial vacancy. Election and Ordination of ruling elders contributes to the spiritual oversight in congregations.
The development of events for the youth of the Presbytery has meant that young people from across the Presbytery can met together for Fellowship, Bible Teaching and Social interaction.
Another innovation was that of the Presbytery Academy. This is a monthly meeting for anyone within Presbytery to gather for a time of in-depth teaching on theological topics.
Presbytery continues to discuss ways of enhancing the pastoral care of the members of the twenty congregations within the Presbytery bounds.
With changing demographics and limited resources in personnel, as part of a Church-wide discussion, Presbytery is continuing to develop plans for reconfiguration of ministry; to consolidate areas of outreach, identify needs and support local initiatives in the advancement God’s kingdom.
