Coleraine Music Festtval Aqsoeiation is a charitable association gov¢rned by a constitution. The
objecls of the iissociation are to hold and promote competitive music teslivals. to present dnd
promote public performances, concerts and recitals. and to affiliate with and promote th¢ ¢haritabl¢
objects of The British Association of Festivals for Music, Dance and Speech.
The trustees have had regard to the CCNI statutory guTdance regarding public benefit.
Activities and Main Achievements
The Coleraine Mustc Festival was held from Ilth-27th April 2018. with the Speech and drama
Competitions from I lth to 20th April and Music Competitions from 23-27th April in Coleraine
Towi halL. With over 900 individual entries in the Speech Competitions and also 4 larger choral
entries this meant that approximately 1000 individuals competed in the Speech and drama Section of
the Festival. Music entries increased by almost 30 per cent in 2018 ￿ryth over 400 single entries as
well as 39 choirs and larger group entries.

All in all we provided a platform for competition, experience and adjudieation for almost 2500
children and adults from a wide area. Entrants came from as far away as Moneymore, Tobennore,
Ballymena and Limavady; as well as from throughout th¢ entire Causeway Coast Council Area.
Again this year there was also an increased focus on children (and adults ) with spectal needs. A
massive number of teachers and helpers were also in attendance with ihe school groups and over
2000 adult spectators paid at the door as well as those who had free access as teachers or guardians.
As a result (ittendances Lyrew compared to prior years. Also, to '$￿ the Festival we required at
least 5-6 volunteers or Con]mittee members per session so in total b¢tween 200-250 individllals were
required (and used) some on many more than one occasion and all done voluntarily.
This ccrtainly should have given local businesses a boost with the influx of so many people to the
town over this 14 days and 39 sessions of Comp¢tition at Coleraine Music Festival in our Town
Centre venue. We trust that we have contributed in some way lo the growth of our local economy.
This year our two adjudicators appeared to award more than the usual number of awards for Second
and Third plac¢ prizewinners and also, highly commended, awards, along with our usual cash
Bursary awards. As a result a larger than ever number of our young competitors weTe encouraged and
awarded for theiT partiCiP(Ition and perfonnance at the festival and their hard work in prep￿atIOn in
th¢ run up to it which was evÈdent in the higher standard of perfonnances.
In addition to the above achievements, in 2018 we were successful in obtaining sponsorship from
The Honourable The Irish So¢i¢ty, and signed up 23 advertisers and 10 other donors toward our
Festival programme.
Financial review
The TesulÈs for the year are laid out in our Receipts and Payments account and Statement of Assets
and Liabilities for the year ended 31" July 2018. The deficit for 2018 was £2850 (2017 deficit £2962)
largely because we purchased a sizcablc number of medals and badges that should service part of our
festival awards for the next five years or so. We have sufficient reserves to continue into future years
but continue to seek funding and other ways to eliminate deficits in futur¢ years.
