Mallusk Integrated Primary School PTA Annual Report
Y/E June 2025
NIC: 106397
1. The role of the PTA
Purpose 1: Improved relationships between home and school the benefit which flows from this purpose includes funding for additional resources for the school and links built with the local community.
Purpose 2: Advancing the education of pupils in the school the benefit which flows from this purpose includes increased educational progress and attainment of pupils in the school and links built with the local community.
Purpose 1 is demonstrated through having an active PTA that works in partnership with the school and engages parental support.
Purpose 2 is demonstrated through pupils having access to resources, events, activities, and links with the local community which are not available through direct school funding.
No harm arises from either purpose.
The benefit is for children at Mallusk Integrated Primary School there is no private benefit Charity trustees (PTA committee members) are usually also parents at the school which their children attend and hence gain benefit in the same way as all other beneficiaries. This benefit is incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to all beneficiaries.
2. Overview of the PTA’s structure & how it is governed.
The PTA are a registered charity and are therefore governed by Charity Commission for Northern Ireland. Our Charity number is NI106397.
We have adopted the Parent kind model constitution. This constitution sets out the type of association, its purpose, powers, members of the association, powers of the committee, property & funds, records and accounts, Notices, dissolution, AGM, and committee meetings guidance.
Committee didn’t change this year members re-voted in:
Chairperson - Mhairi Kernaghan
Treasurer - Sheryl McBride
Secretary - Louise Boyle
Vice Chairperson- Erin Johnston
3. The decision-making process
At the start of each year our principal Susanne Kinsella provides the PTA with a wish list of what she would like the PTA to fundraise for. This can be for the following year or following few years. The committee along with its members consider and discuss the list at the first
meeting whereby it is decided what we can or cannot fundraise for. This is agreed via a vote. We also include our children in the decision-making process.
4. Highlights of 2025
This year we have raised an amazing - £5,888.30.
Crazy Hair Day - November
- We held a Crazy Hair Day and invited pupils (and teachers!) to come to school with the craziest hair do, this was a great success. The children love this event, and we love to see how creative they can get with your help.
December 2024
-
We provided Christmas Crackers for everyone to pull at their Christmas Dinner on Christmas Jumper Day
-
We created a magical Santa’s grotto and workshop again this year. The children loved visiting Santa and receiving a Christmas cup filled with sweeties straight from the North Pole! Santa’s elves worked very hard to decorate the grotto, ensure all the presents were wrapped and tidy it all back up again by lunch time!
-
The children worked hard on their self-portraits that were made into a tea towel and sold to raise funds.
-
The Christmas Raffle saw some great prizes being made available, thanks to many of the parents donating items as well as great support from local businesses.
Valentines & Halloween Discos
-
The children really seem to love the disco’s and we love them too, DJ Kim was a massive hit with the kids, she had a queue halfway up the hall for requests! We gave out party bags on entry this time and it seemed to work better than having a tuck shop open.
-
They’re a great way to bring in funds and give our fantastic parents a few hours off!!
Easter
-
We had an amazing hamper donated by Georgia’s Gran, a pass to Streamvale Farm and a huge Easter Egg as our raffle prizes and held a Break the Rules Day on the last day of term.
-
The kids were really excited and turned up with lots of fake tattoos, no uniform and sweeties for snack – poor teachers!
Summer fair
- Our biggest event of the year, we held the Fair on a Friday night this year and went mostly indoors as the weather was not promising, it worked out really well. We got a fantastic turn out and a brilliant profit.
Non-Uniform Days
- These are usually always the last Friday of the month, the kids do love these, sometimes we have a loose theme but generally keep it simple – thank you again for your support in sending in those £1’s for these, they all add up and it really helps.
Preloved uniform/Christmas Jumpers
- We always have a great selection of uniform available, and we always have a great volume and quality of donations – thank you for that.
Transportation
- Again, this year we funded the school transportation that takes the kids along to their school trips in the spring and to the Christmas panto.
Leaver’s hoodies
- We also funded the P7 leavers hoodies again this year.
Whiteboards
- We funded the replacement of some old, outdated whiteboards and tracking to ensure they were accessible to all using them.
5. Thank you.
Thank you everyone who supports the PTA, provides feedback, attends meetings when you can and offers to help if they have time, it really helps and goes such a long way - we couldn't do it without you all.
Thank you to Mrs Kinsella for keeping us on the right track and to all the staff for their support and patience as we pop in and out of the school with different things and instructions!
We would be lost without Mandy who just always seems to be in the right place at the right time and knows what to do!
Ivan at the Academy club has always been a great supporter and has been so kind to us over there last year taking away a lot of stress and worry over booking venues.
I want to personally thank the committee members for their hard work and dedication to the PTA for the last year, it is hard at times to find time and make it work but you always do.
6. Focus for the Committee
This year we hope to continue replacing the white boards.
