9. Charity’s Main Activities and Achievements during the year.
The 4th Fermanagh scouts group have had another very busy year 24_25..
We had 87 members on the register and 85% attendance over the 3 sections on a weekly basis. We have 20 leaders across the 3 sections who are fully committed and have on average a 95% attendance rate which is something to be celebrated.
The Cubs started completing Special Interest Badges and most members completed 2 badges. They have really enjoyed this badge and loved getting to show off and talk about their talents. They also completed the Emergency Care Badge 3 and Hill Walking Badge 2. They had a planned overnight stay in Claddagh Glen with the Beavers in June completing a hike on the first day, and they all got to enjoy a camp fire with some Scottish Venture Scouts heading off on a lake expedition for their Duke of Edinburgh Award. This was a real treat for both Cubs and Beavers and were awarded all their badges around the camp fire. The Cubs had a great day at Gortin Glen Skills Day and the opportunity to see scouts from across the county was brilliant for them. Some of the cubs said they didn't know there were so many scouts! The Cubs were visited by the Erne Anglers for a night during the winter and got to use high end fishing gear and were instructed in how to fish properly. The Anglers will return to do an outdoor water session. Scouts were visited by the emergency services, mountain rescue, RNLI and Police for talks and discussions. They attend a wonderful skills day with great reports coming back though numbers were disappointing (football we think). They also attended an orienteering day in Castle Archdale in March and cooked on Trangias after. The Cubs and Scouts also had their annual pancake night which is always welcomed. The Beavers completed their Air Badge. They enjoyed a lovely Pizza and games night before Easter and they really enjoyed the overnight in Cladagh Glen in June. The beavers were involved in a tree planting morning with Ulster Wildlife at the Castle Park Centre and had time after to play in the new park. They also had a visit Pomeroy Adventure Park in June, and ice cream after. We were able to avail of the Fermanagh Rural Transport bus for this which significantly helped keep bus costs to a minimum. Cubs and Scouts enjoyed a 5 day camp to Lockerbie in July. This was a very memorable and exhausting experience for everyone. An action packed camp was had by all and one everyone was keen to repeat..(maybe not this year though) All sections take advantage of the local area and visited Crom Estate, Killyfole and Lisnaskea Birdie Walk when they can. The scouts also took advantage of the Erne Paddler this spring for some canoeing in Enniskillen. We have 3 new leaders though BAS, Emily Marshall, Cassie Ann Walsh Rover Scouters and Kerry Breen Beavers.
