Trustees, Annual Report- Year Ended 31" March 2024
The Trustees present their Annual Report and Financial Statements for the year ended 31" March
2024.
Structure, Governance and Management
The Partnership is registered with the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland - No. NIC106126, It
operates under a Constitution adopted on 27 March 2007, as subsequently amended. Membership
is open to Individual Members, Affiliated Members lorganisations within the Area of benefit in
Malawi
there are no such members at presentl and Associate Members (there are no such
members at presentl. The Association and its property are administered and managed by a
Management Committee.
Objectlves and Actlvitles
The Association is established to relieve poverty and sickness, to support the Christian eth05 of the
hospital and to promote the preservation of health of the inhabitants of the catchment area of the
hospital and health centres as defined by the David Gordon Memorial Hospital I'DGMH'I,
Livingstonia in Malawi Ihereinafter called the "area of benefit") without distinttion on any of the
grounds set out in the Constitution, by associating the statutory authorities, community and
voluntary organisations and the inhabitants in a common effort to advance health and wellbelng
with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants.
Achlevements and Performance
l. The main activity of the Partnership is raising funds to support the work of the Hospital. This
was done as set out in the Financial Statements.
2. During the year the Partnership received various donations, including in lieu of flowers
following the passing of a supporter.
3. The Partnership has had ongoing discussions with other bodies in Northern Ireland and
further afield as to how we can best co-ordinate our support for DGMH.
4. As stated in the 2022/23 report, on 21, March 2023, LHP were advised that a separate
Medical Board for DGMH had been set up by the Church of Central Africa Presbyterian. A

Zoom meeting between the Board and the LHP Committee took place on 9 May 2023. This
enabled the two bodies to work together in the ensuing period. Some members of the Board
have also joined the joint DGMH-LHP WhatsApp group.
5. LHP funded the salary of a WASH officer in DGMH, at £800.00 per quarter. She promotes
cholera prevention measures in the local community.
6. LHP was contacted about a project by a Rotary Club in Malawi to provide a mortuary at the
hospital. A member of the LHP Committee spoke about this at a meeting of a Rotary Club in
Northern Ireland.

7. A Presbyterian church in Northern Ireland had received a legacy for use in Africa. After
consultation with the committee of LHP, they forwarded It to DGMH for use in their Tithetse
Cholera Project. A doctor who is a supporter of LHP had been asked to pass on a donation
for use in a developing country, and this was sent through LHP for use in the construction of
an operating theatre.
As stated in the 2022123 report, LHP has continued to support Penjani Sichinga in hls
medical studies, The Partnership paid his subscription to the medical website UpToDate for
2 years, and funded his purchase of a laptop. The Chair of the DGMH Board, Prof Nyengo
Mkandawire, provided details of Penjani's CPD requirements.

9. On 8 September 2023, LHP held its AGM in a hybrid format, via Zoom and in person in
Edenderry Presbyterian Church, Portadown. Staff from DGMH reported on the work of the
hospital, and answered questions from those present. Alan Laverock {Chair} and Charles
Shepherd (Treasurer} brought reports. Mrs Mary Braithwaite presided over the elettion of
the new Committee. As stated in the 2022123 report, a medlcal student at Imperial College
London spent an internship in DGMH in Spring 2023. She reported on her internship at the
AGM via Zoom.
10. LHP confirmed their details to The Elettives Network, which provides support for students
doing electives in the developing world. The LHP Committee received various expressions of
interest from students considering doing their internship at DGMH, which were forwarded
to the hospital. Unfortunatelyi none of the students ended up doing their internships at
DGMH.
11. Mourne Presbyterian Church, Kilkeel have supported DGMH for many years, with particular
emphasis on Primary Health Care. A member of the church joined the LHP committee during
the year, which has enabled the two organisations to co-ordinate their work.
Public Beneflt Statement
The direct benefits flowing from the organisation's purposes are as follows:
l. There will be improved health outcomes and improved medical treatment due to enhanced
facilities and equipment.
2. Service will be provided by volunteers, there will be publicity for the work of the hospltal
following the return of the volunteers to their home countries, and medical experience will
be gained by volunteers during their service.
3. There will be increased support and donations for the hospital, both in Malawi and Northern
Ireland,
4. The advancement of religion. Increased support in Northern Ireland for the work of the
hospital. Support for the Christian ethos of the hospital will result in encouragement to
peo'ple in Malawi from the knowledge that they are beinB prayed for.
The benefits can be demonstrated through regular reports from the h05Pltal.
