2024-2025
Trustee Report
27[th] Belfast Scouts
27[th] Belfast Scouts operated during the year with over 70 children and young people across four Sections – Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Venturers.
We followed the Scouting Ireland’s programme of activities and the children learnt skills which will be useful for their adult lives such as personal responsibility, citizenship, teamwork, leadership, cooking, adaptability etc.
We also had a number of excursions in outings during the year. We availed of activities organized by the Down and Connor county teams. In May, the Cubs went camping to Crawfordsburn on a very hot weekend, which included a train ride to the cinema to stay as well as lots of other outdoor activities.
The Beavers enjoyed a wonderful trip to the Pantomine to see Cinderella in December whilst the Cubs, Scouts and Venturers enjoyed a bowling trip in November as their Christmas treat.
We were successful in attracting grants of £1500 from the EA. This enabled our Beavers to enjoy a day of teambuilding and outdoor activities at Breckenhill. The Cubs enjoyed a fun day of Welcome back to Scouting at Let’s Go Hydro. The Scouts and Venturers had planned a trip to the Gobbins but unfortunately due to a rockfall, it remained closed in 2025 so the EA kindly agreed a change of plan and that group will be visiting Prison Island to partake in fun group activities.
Several new leaders completed their training courses.
It was a challenging year as we were given notice to leave our long-term home in the Holy Family Parish hall. Luckily, the Cavehill Tennis Club were able to accommodate us on the same evenings and we began renting rooms in their premises in January. We were also able to secure storage for tents and larger equipment at Blessed Trinity College.
During the year, several leaders stood down, including our Group Leader, Siobhan Quinn. Many thanks to Siobhan for her years of hard work.
Many thanks to all our volunteers, parents and children as well as the local community who stepped in this year to give us a helping hand in a time of change.
