A summary description of the purposes of the charity** _**The aim of Scouting Ireland is to encourage the physical, intellectual, character, emotional, social and spiritual development of young people so that they may achieve their full potential and as responsible citizens, to improve society.**_ _**The Charity’s purposes are: The advancement of education The advancement of citizenship or community development**_ **7. Include details of any funds held by the charity as a custodian trustee** _This is mandatory for charities preparing accruals accounts._ ## 9 Charity’s Main Activities and Achievements during the year. ## **Group leader Report** 2022 – 2023 was a full scouting year. Our Beavers, Cubs and Scout sections had a full year of activities providing an in person programme for all our scouts. Our membership has recovered with a number of new adults and kids joining since the end of the pandemic with a long waiting list. All sections use the Scout Method for delivery of the programme and make best use of the Association’s Plan, do and review regime. All continue to participate at county, provincial and national levels (where Covid allows) and all maintain close relationships with other Scout Groups in the County, all of which enhances the youth membership’s scouting experience. The Group is fortunate to benefit from the dedication and commitment of our 21 volunteer Leaders and Secretary, all of whom either work and/or attend university full time. I wish to thank them for their hard 2 work and the effort they put in to provide the high quality programme being delivered and I continue to ask our parents for their support as we try to provide a great scouting experience for their children. How has the Group ensured members have not come to harm?** _All volunteers receive training in Safeguarding, Programme (youth work) skills and adventure skills. There is oversight of all activity by the Group Leader and the Group Council. Communications are regularly sent to and received from parents. All activities are carefully planned and the appropriate equipment used._ **12. How has your Group ensured that any private benefit to your volunteers has been incidental to the public benefit of your work?** _Volunteers gain additional transferrable skills but this is incidental to the work that they do and are the skills that they require to undertake that work._ ## **13. A statement that the Trustees have had regard to the CCNIs guidance on Public Benefit.** _We, the Trustees of 23[rd] Antrim Derriaghy Scout Group, Scouting Ireland, can confirm that in setting our objectives and planning for the year that we have given careful consideration to the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland’s guidance on public benefit to ensure that the activities have helped to achieve the charity’s purposes and provide a benefit to the beneficiaries._ 5 **14.
