9. Charity’s Main Activities and Achievements during the year.

Beaver scouts

Attended beaver ramble in Oxford Island.
Worked on badges – camping stage 1, Orienteering stage 1, Emergencies stage
Major project supporting community – importance of good balanced diet, planned exercise routines – followed by setting up food collection stand - -all food collected went to local food bank.
Revisited Good Deed agreements drawn up by troops, each beaver had to do a series of charitable deeds per day throughout lent for parents, family, and at home.
Litter picks around den and local schools.
Recycling project – collecting food cans for helping cubs made insect hotels.

Cub scouts

Worked on badges Camping stage 2 and 3, Backwoods stage 2 and 3, Pioneering stage 2 and 3
• Supported beavers in their food collection.
Cub outdoor skills day in Oxford Island
Outdoor orienteering Gosford
County cub scout skills challenge
Outdoor survival – pitching tents, lighting cook fire – setting up wash stand.
Built outdoor wooden structure to support swing.
Cooking food outdoors - Outdoor cook night.
Preservation project - Painted equipment shed and outdoor tables-
Troop on litter picks around local church in preparation for cemetery Sunday.
Conservation project – wildflower garden at front and back of scout den
Prepared ground for two wildflower gardens
sowed seeds and planted flowers in planters.
Replaced old insect hotels with new ones.

10. How is the Group doing financially?

The Group is in a healthy financial position due to grants successfully awarded to the group from the EA and other organisations such as Arnold Clake awarding grants to voluntary organisations, and weekly subs from scouts attending sessions.

Our expenditure last year totaled £5514 this left a closing balance of £9,599.

The Group has no debts and can meet its ongoing running costs through grant support and membership fees/weekly contributions.

11. How has the Group ensured members have not come to harm?

All volunteers receive training in Safeguarding, Programme (youth work) skills and adventure skills. There is oversight of all activity by the Group Leader and the Group Council. Parents are regularly communicated with. All activities are carefully planned and the appropriate equipment used.

12. How has your Group ensured that any private benefit to your volunteers has been incidental to the public benefit of your work?

Volunteers gain additional transferrable skills, but this is incidental to the work that they do and are the skills that they require to undertake that work.

We the Trustees of ____8[th] Armagh Scout Group Scouting Ireland can confirm that in setting our objectives and planning for the year that we have given careful consideration to the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland’s guidance on public benefit to ensure that the activities have helped to achieve the charity’s purposes and provide a benefit to the beneficiaries.
