Annual Report 12th Armagh Slieve Gullion Scouts, Scouting Ireland 2022 -2023.
The aim of 12th Armagh Slieve Gullion Scouts is to encourage the physical, intellectual, character, emotional, social and spiritual development of young people so that they may achieve their full potential and as responsible citizens, to improve society. The Charity’s purposes are: The advancement of education The advancement of citizenship or community development
All volunteers receive training in Safeguarding, Program (youth work) skills and adventure skills. Volunteers gain additional transferrable skills, but this is incidental to the work that they do and are the skills that they require to undertake that work. A statement that the Trustees have had regard to the CCNIs guidance on Public Benefit. We the Trustees of 12th Armagh Slieve Gullion Scouts can confirm that in setting our objectives and planning for the year that we have considered the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland’s guidance on public benefit to ensure that the activities have helped to achieve the charity’s purposes and provide a benefit to the beneficiaries.
Community Service
Our group along with our local primary school and church did a Christmas food appeal for the local SVDP food bank, we where very grateful to the local community as we where able to collect enough food to keep the food bank going over the christmas period right through to early spring.
Environmental
We where Kindly Donated 50 Oak saplings which our youth members planted throughout our community as part of our investiture ceremony.
Training
We have 4 new leaders complete there basic training and vetting, as well as 3 leaders complete their REC 3 first aid training.
Our, One program and weekly scouting returned to normal with Beavers and Cubs Meeting on Mondays and Scouts and Ventures on a Friday. With 55 youth members attending weekly
Our beavers where able to complete and obtain their level one badges in first aid, camping and hiking as part of their Monday night program
Our Cubs obtained a mixture of level 2 and 3 badges in First Aid, Hiking, Camping, and Pioneering as part of their Monday night program.
Our Scouts obtained a mixture of level 3 and 4 badges in First Aid, Hiking, Camping, and Pioneering as part of their Friday night program.
We Hosted a number of County Events as well as attending a number hosted by other groups
Our Scouts Hosted the Orienteering on Slieve Gullion with a team from our group winning.
Our Cubs Hosted the County Cub Quiz and Challenge
Our Beavers Hosted the County Hike On Slieve Gullion
Scouts competed in the County Shield And got a silver merit,
Summer Camps
We where able to take 45 kids Camping Moira lakes for 2 nights and 3 days of activities including Paddling boarding and climbing walls, Talent show and BBQ
We had 30 youth members go to Shannanghmore outdoor Education centre for 4 days 3 nights where we did team building and outdoor pursuits
