The aim of Scouting Ireland is to encourage the physical, intellectual, character,
emotional, social and spiritual development of young people so that they may
achieve their full potential and as responsible citizens, to improve society.
The Charity’s purposes are:

9. Charity’s Main Activities and Achievements during the year.

Our AGM was held on Wednesday 7[th] September 2022 where group reports and financial accounts were on the agenda. Registration for the new scouting year took place with an excellent signing up for all youth sections. Group Assembly meetings took place throughout the year on the following dates:

2. 24[th] January 2023

3. 21[st] March 2023

4. 13[th] June 2023

Members attended the SI online AGM, County Planner Night on the 31[st] August and a Scout Skills weekend on 23-25[th] September. Scouters completed a weekend of First Aid training over the 8-9[th] October. Scouters celebrated

Christmas with a Party Night on the 10[th] December and we set up a Santa Day for our Youth members on the 11[th] December. Group completed their new 3 year plan for the 22-25 on the 28[th] January. Leaders were brought up to date with incident reporting using the SIF 10 – 05 Accident and Incident Report Form . Leaders completed Group Leader and Deputy Group Leader training finishing on 21/22[nd] April.

Beavers worked on First Aid, Pioneering, Camping, Backwoods and Air Badge. They had a sleepover in the Den in November and their investiture was in January. Hosted the County Skills Day for all the Beavers in the county. Took part in an environmental award project. Beavers attended the County Fun Day on the 11[th] June in Oxford Island. Summer camp took place 21[st] – 23[rd] July and was taken to the Scout Den due to the very wet weather. A quartermaster inventory day took place on the 8[th] July to reassess all gear belonging to the group. We finished the scout year with a fun night and BBQ in Drum Manor which took place on the 27[th] June.

Cubs worked on Hiking and Camping adventure skills. They invested their new Cubs in November and had their first sleepover on the 26/27[th] November. Cubs also worked on teamwork, working the small group system. Took part in the County Quiz and Challenge on the 23[rd] April and the County Hike on the 7[th] May.

Preparations are underway for Summer Camp. Cubs to host Cub Skills Day in Drum Manor on 4[th] June. 5 Day Summer Camp was arranged for Crawfordsburn but due to it being closed down, change of venue to Portstewart Scout Hall.

Scouts started the year with a weekend expedition where they had the five different teams assessed. Worked on Pioneering and Knife work. Scouts hosted the County Quiz and Challenge for all the Scouts in the County. Preparations are underway for Summer Camp. Scouts prepared and attended the County Shield competition. Summer Camp was split over two events – first was a hammocking weekend in Drum Manor and second was a weekend in the Share Centre.

10. How is the Group doing financially?

The Group is coping well financially and is able to meets the needs of the different sections within the Group for the coming year. We have deemed ourselves a going concern.

11. How has the Group ensured members have not come to harm?

All volunteers receive training in Safeguarding, Programme (youth work) skills and adventure skills. There is oversight of all activity by the Group Leader and the Group Council. Parents are regularly communicated with. All activities are carefully planned and the appropriate equipment used. All leaders are currently up to date with their Access NI checks.

12. How has your Group ensured that any private benefit to your volunteers has been incidental to the public benefit of your work?

Volunteers gain additional transferrable skills but this is incidental to the work that they do and are the skills that they require to undertake that work.

13. A statement that the Trustees have had regard to the CCNIs guidance on Public Benefit.

We the Trustees of 6[th] Tyrone Cookstown Scouting Ireland can confirm that in setting our objectives and planning for the year that we have given careful consideration to the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland’s guidance on public benefit to ensure that the activities have helped to achieve the charity’s purposes and provide a benefit to the beneficiaries.
