For many Guidesthis was the firstfull year of Guiding since the Covid pandemic. Including
attending 8 camp. This came with its own challenges,. many of the older Guides had to be taught
the basics of leadership and camp skill8 that normally theywould have developed duringtheir
time within the unit. Many of the Guides had become codependent on siblings/ close friends. as
this was their limited social interactions during Lockdownslbubbles. We tryingto ease the
Guides into newgroups and patrols and open up their sociaLgroup by running Patrol badge

nights, and team building activities. Group work became a keyfocus of the year, as many
Guides simply did not have to confidence to work with other Guides they w8re not cLose to.
The unit have found it very difficult to get Guides to attend to any event outside of the unit
meeting plac8. The u
ittry and subsidise the cost of activities 8nd events outside of the
meeting place to en
urage parents to convince Guides to attend.
We came together s
eral tlmes throughout the year with the Brownies and Rainbows. We have
found this works wel
as it allows the younger girls to recognise the Leaders before moving up to
the next age group.
ver8l of the new Guides made thelr promlse into the unit. out on the nlght
walk 8round Cairn Wood. We held 8 Christmas parents evening. where the Guides serviced tea
coffee and mince pi
S. and the parents could purchase craftthat their daughters had made. The
junior members had
ames and craft activitiesthey could partake in. 8nd the Rainbows had
Santas grotto tovisit
We attended a joint
mp at Cr8wfordsburn Scout Centre with another local Guide unit from
Friday 2"_Sund8y 4
. June 2024. One of our leaders org8nised the joint eventto obtain her
Going Away Le8ders
Ip-alLowing her to organise camps in the future. While at the camp we
had two Patrols parti
ipate atthe North Down County Ewingjohnston Compatition. This

lunch on 8n open fire with no Leader 888i8tance, folL0v￿d byteam work
activities such as puule solving. orienteering. first aid response and sports. Both Patrols
performed exceedingly well and won second an(J third place.
It]oom&" (£3837) Maiprity of income is from the Educatlon Authortygrant, and Guide
Subscription and 8CtIvity fees from parents. We fundraised £82from the Lorne Walk, £53 of
which wentto Girigulding Ulster. It is common pr8Ctise forthe Guide unitto donateto the
Rainbow and Brownip units, howeverthis year we splitthe fundraising of the Christmas parents
evenlng between theltwojunior units.
Expandi￿. (£2434) The largest expenditur8 is the Giriguiding UK Subscription fees (£50 pp):
followed by camp fees. It is standard practice forthe Guide unit to give a donation to Regent
Street Presbyterian éi hurch for use of the church h8lls, however due to 8n online b8nking error
this did not complete in December 2023 and fell into the foLlowing financialyear. Therefore 2024
account will showtwo donations to the church. All badges, food and activity equipment was
paid for bythe unit: unit Guide scap4es were purchased. as there were none left for new
members. The broken FirstAid box and out-of-date first aid equipment was aLso replaced. A
donation was given to a Young Leader travelling to Kipepeo Kenya to perform charity work. WE
had the local Archery group attend and teach the Guides archery; the unit donated £3 per head
to the archeryteam for a very organised event enjoyed bythe Guides.

It must be noted that many members and trustees have donated equipmentto the unit as well
astime each weekto organise and run the programme and paid annual leave from work-
particularlyfor camping. 1" Newtown8rds Guide unit has a strict cLaim back policy. so aLI
receipts are collected in and reimbursements given; however, we do received donations of
second-hand equipment no longer required, such as folders. craft equipment. and pens etc.
Post covid it was notgd thatthe EA grant received had almost tripled. While this may not be
sustainable and could be reduced at anytime, it has benefited the unit to 811ow for a reserwed
pot offunds to be held for emergency purchases of broken equipment. The increased funds
have also allowed the unitforward p18n to 8ttend a larger 4 night camp in 2024. as the unit can
subsidise the heavy gttendance fees to ensure that more Guides are not restricted by cost.
Events that have been held overthe year hav8 been subsidised bythe unit in an attempt to
increase numbers 8
nding.
Overall, we maintain
the unit. The EA allo
