Objeetives and Aetivities
Objecls niicl ainis
The purpose of Woinen's Aid ABCLN is lo provide an holistic service lo women and children affected by all
forms of domestic violence. to educate, challenge and co-opei'ate with exlei'nal agencies and the wider
coinmunily with a vision lo ei'adicate domestic violence.
The core aims are..
l. To provide services and lempoi'ary refuge lo women and childi'en suffering doinestic violence, be that
emotional, physical, financial, vei'bal oi. sexual abuse.
2. To einpower and enable woinen to deterinine tl)eir own fi]ture.
3. To recognise, respond and cal'e for Ilie einotional needs of ohildren and young people.
4. To offer support and guidance lo any woman who asks for it, both in refuge and in her own con)Inunity
5. To educate, infoi'm and challenge the public, the media, police, courts, social seivices and other auihorilies
about the pi'evalence and effects of domestic violence. We will always be mindfvl that doniestic violence is a
dire¢t result of the general position of women in oui. society and perpeli'ators, decisions to meet Iheii. own needs
without i)egotialion because they believe that they al'e entitled to.
Domestic violence is a breach of human rights.
Piiblic beiiefil
The direct beii¢fils flowing froin our orgaiiisation's purposes.. Relief of those in need is acliieved througli
providing services for women, children and young people impacted upon by domestic violence. This prevents
homelessness, poverty, and educational undei'achievement. Our work in providiiig training and support to other
agencies, gi'oups and communities educates and empowers responses I'elevant to the needs of these victims. The
beiiefils above al'e dei)ioiisti'ated through tl)e 'joui'i)ey 117velled model, of weekly and IDonthly review of suppoi't
plans, follow up calls and meetii)gs for all seivice users. Need for the service is evideiiced by continued
improvement withirl tl)e organisation, i)ew services offei'ed and the Iiigh number of I'eferi'als lo oui. service. With
reference to all purposes, there is no harm or possibility of hai'm outweighed by the benefit.
The rharity's beneficiaries are women, children and yoiing people affected by domestic violence in Ilie five areas
oui. cliai'ity covers, Antrii)I, Ballyinena, Cari'ickfergus, Larne aiid Newtownabbey. It) respect of "pi-ivate
bei)eficiaries" there al'e paid staff integral to piovision of sei'vices to beneficiaries. The benefit derived by these
members of staff, in the form of wages, is incidental to pi'ovision of service to beneficiaries. Service to
beneficiai'ies could not be delivered without paid staff, and the purposes of the chai'ity could nol be attained.
Payment of wages does not form a pui'pose in ils own right and is justifiable and reasonable. Ti'ustees ensure
that payment of wages to staff is directly related to atid only foi- enacting the stated putyoses ai)d attaining the
desired goals for the advantage of beneficiaries.

Pi'incipal Risks and Uneei't8lllties
Objecfives aiiclpolieles
The group's activities expose it lo a i)umber of finaiicial risks iiicludii)g ci'edil risk, cash flow risk and liquidity
I'isk. Tlle use of fii)ancial dei'ivatives is govei'ned by tlie gioup's policies approved by the board of ti'ustees,
which pi'ovide written principles 01) the use of financial dei'ivatives lo manage these risks. The group does i)ot
use dei'ivative finaiicial inslruniei)ts for specLElative purposes.
Caslifloiv risk
The group's activities expose it primarily to the financial risks of clianges in foreign CLlI'I'ency exchaiige l'ates and
inlei'est I'ates. The group uses foi'eign exchange forwai'd conlracls and intei'esl l'ate swap contracts to hedge these
exposures.
Intei'est bearing assets and liabilities al'e held at fixed rate to ensure certaiiity of cash flows.
Credit risk
The group's pi'iiicipal financial assets are bank balances and casl), tiade and otl)ei- receivables, aiid investment5.
Tlie gi'oup's credit I'isk is pi'imarily atti'ibutable to its trad¢ receivables. The aiiiounts pi'esented in tlie balai)ce
sheet are iiet of allowances for doubtful receivables. An allowance for impairinent is made where there is an
identified loss event which, based on previous experience. is evidence of a I'educlion in the recoverability of the
cash flows.
The credit risk on liquid funds and derivative financial insti'uments is limited because the counterparties are
banks with high credit-ralings assigiied by international ci'edit-i'ating agencies.
The group has no significant concentration of credit risk, with exposure spread over a large number of
eounterparties and customers.
Liqiiidity risk
In order to maintain liquidity to ensure that sufficient ￿ndS are available for ongoing operations and future
development5, the group uses a mixture of long-term and short-terni debi finance.
Further details regarding IiqLEidily risk can be found in the Statement of accounting policies in the financial
slalements.
Goiiig Coiicerii
The trustees believe that the charity will wntinue as a going concern. Funders have shown themselves to be
supportive, flexible, and adaptive to Ilie ciiri'ent situation which is an invaluable help to the woinen's aid
community. Tlie organisation continues to work in pai#nership with government bodies and agencies in ternis of
developing a longer-tei-m sti'ategy to support victinis of doinestic abuse. The ti?nsition to NJC pay scales for all
ABCLN staff necessitated a use of uni'e5tricled reserves over a three-year period. These increased costs have
beei) factored in to futui'e budgets and nianagement expect the Chai'ity to returii to a breakeven position witl)in
thire yeai's. To support this change the Chai'ity has initiated new oppoitunities for I'aising uni'estricled funds
including opening shops in Larne and Anlrim, inci'easing donations from the public and businesses and exploi'ing
new avenues for gi'ant funding. The Cl)arity continues to pursue additional grant funding froin Current aiid new

Conclusions i'elAting to going concern
In auditing the financial statements, we l)ave concluded that the Ii'ustees use of the going concem basis of

We have nothing lo I'epoit in this regai'd.
OpinÉon on othei. matter pres¢rib¢d by the Companies Act 2006
In oui. opinion, based on the work undei'laken in the course of the audit:
the information given in the Sii'alegic Report and Ti'ustees, Repoii for Ihe financial year for which the
financial statements are pi'epaird is consistent with the financial stateinenls. and
the Sii'ategic Repoi. land Trustees, Report have been prepared in accoi'dance with applicable legal

Matters on Ivhich we are required to report by exception
In the light of oui. knowledge and understanding of the group and the parent chai'itable company and its
environment obtained in the coui'se of the audit, Ive have not identified material misstatements in the Stt7tegic
Report and the Ti-ustees, Report.
We have nothing to I'eport in respect of the following matters where the Companies Act 2006 I'equires us lo report
to you if, in our opinion..
adequate accounting records have not been kept by the pai'ent chai'ilable company, or returns adequate for our
audit have not been received fi'om branches not visited by us. or
the parent chai'ilable company financial statements are not in agreement with the accountis)g I'ecoi'ds and

¢ei'lain disclosuirs of Ii'uslees remuneration specified by law are not made,. or
we have not received all the inforniation and explanations we require foi. our audit.
Responsibilities of trustees
As explained more fully in the Statement of Ti'uslees, Responsibilities (set out on page l O), the ttijslees are
Irsponsible for Ihe pi'eparalion of the financial statements and foi. being satisfied that they give a Ii'ue and fair

statements that al'e free fi'om material misstatement, whether due to fraud or eri'oi..
In preparing the financial statements, the Iruslee5 al'e I'esponsible for assessing the charity's ability to continue as a
going concei'n, disclosing, as applicable, mattel's related lo going concern and using the going concei'n basis of
accounting unless the trustees either intend to liquidale the eharily or to cease opei'ations, oi. have no realislic
alternative but to do so.
Auditor i'esponsibilities foi. the audit of the financiAI statements
Our objectives are lo obtain reasonable assui'ance about whether the financial 51atemenls as a whole are free fi'om
malei'ial misstatement, whether due to ti'aud or ei'i'oi., and lo issue an auditor's repoit that includes oui. opinion.
Reasonable assurance is a high level of assui'ance, bul is not a guai'anlee that an audit conducted iii accoi'dance
with ISAS (UK) will always detect a Inatei'ial misstatemcnt when it exists. Misstatements can ai'ise fi'on) fraud or
eri'oi. and al'e considered material if, individually oi. in the aggi'egmte, they could reasonably be expected to
influei)ce the econoinic decisions of usei's taken on the basis of these financial statements.
