9. Charity’s Main Activities and Achievements during the year.
Successfully re-opened all sections in our group for the 2022-2023 Scouting year which included members in Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Ventures and Rovers.
We had enough leaders to do this and all leaders completed their vetting/training in line with Scouting Irelands requirements. We are actively recruiting new leaders as it can be tight ratio wise for some activities if someone can’t make it.
All sections ran various activities throughout the year and finished the year with Annual Summer Camp.
Each section meets once a week minimum and then there are additional activities at weekend. Some examples below:
Beavers & Cubs: World of Owls visit, hike in Moydamlaght, Badge related activities (camping, air, pioneering, emergencies and backwoods), pottery workshop and arts & crafts.
Scouts, Ventures & Rovers: Weekly sessions included Trangia cooking, first aid, pioneering, backwoods, archery, pottery and map work. Weekend activities included fun day at Drumanor, Canoe pool sessions and canoeing at Ballyronan Marina, overnight expedition in the Sperrins and many more fun activities.
The Scouts won the Errigal Cup and went on to participate in the Phoenix Challenge.
Successful fundraisers included Quiz, Christmas hamper and bake sale.
We aim to Scout outdoors as much as possible. Challenge, adventure and a sense of freedom are all present in close contact with nature away from everyday home life. Scouting is inclusive to all, all races, genders, abilities, and faiths are welcome.
Scouting enjoys widespread respect in the community because of its positive contribution to the lives of young people.
10. How is the Group doing financially?
Income: £27444 Expenses: £28351
Although the accounts show we were in a deficit of £907 for the 2022-2023 financial year this was a group decision.
The bank account is healthy and we as a group subsidised more activities for our youth members this year. We also bought some much needed equipment and resources to help broaden the activities we can offer in-house.
Successful fundraisers included Quiz, Christmas hamper and bake sale.
We also received some grants from the Honorable Irish Society and Scout Foundation totaling £1,450.
