Bann Valley Community Group Trustees' Report Year Ended 31 December 2023
Objectives and Activities
To promote the inhabitants of Clady and lnnisrush (the area of benefit) without the distinction of age, sex, race, political or other opinion, by associating with the statutory authorities, voluntary organisations and inhabitants in a common effort to provide opportunities in the interest of social welfare and health with the object of improving the condition of life for the said inhabitants.
Achievement and Performance
The group has achieved a number of objectives since last year's report. Our hall has continued to be vital in its use for the local community. The community gym has grown in membership and serves the community by continuing to enhance access to affordable fitness options and provide opportunities for social engagement.
Bookings at our hall continue to provide a steady source of income and usage. We welcome Irish Dancing, Gaelic football and Camogie, basketball, St Vincent de Paul charitable group, and continued to host funeral gatherings and occasional wedding celebrations.
The new river pathway scheme continues to be very well used by community members and by those who travel from neighbouring areas to use the safe, waterside walkway.
While the project has not advanced as quickly as we would have liked due to funding issues at devolved government level, we continue work on the new multi-sports hall in conjunction with the Education Authority NI. We are hopeful of progress in the incoming financial year.
The youth group continued to operate the increasingly popular weekly youth club and the successful annual summer scheme which has developed a cohesion strand welcoming children and young people from local minority ethnic groups from Ukrainian, Syrian and Afghan communities.
Financial Review
The group has received funding from Mid Ulster Council, and Northern Ireland Housing Executive, totalling £10,078 (2022 - £ 28,386 ).
