Cuan Mhuire is a way of life. 11 is focu$ed on serving Christ in the perion suffering from addiction and ill èffects, We
are wholly inolu$ive and embrace thosè who feel marginalised artd unloved, The Cuan Mhuire Community seek$ lo help
all lo dis¢over th&ir giflednÈ$s and their inlinile value. Cuan Mhuire provides a lived experience of homel familyi and
belonging. We are always attentivè lo providing the highest slandards of ex¢ellertee for those for whom we provide Carè
and support.
The ¢ompaMy's obje¢lg arè to promote Ihe relief of $iekness and in parlicular lo relieve persons without règard lo age
$ex, race, religion or ¢reed who are suffering from dependènce on alcohol or any other drug or from any illness,
infirmityi disability or disease allribulable to resulting from or in any way Connected wilh such dependen¢è.
The strategies employed lo assist the charity lo meet these obje¢live$ ineluded the following:
Providing support and residenlial programme5 related to the problems of dependenee.
Providing afler¢are for ex rèsident$,
An outreach programme is provided lo schools and Colleges and other interested and eoncerned parlie$.
Focusin9 upon limiting Ihe harm which comes wilh dependence,
Working towards applying national standard$ lo service and the implemenlation of tho national oeeupational $landards.
Working in parlner$hip wilh olher agen¢ies to secur6 the widest range of gervices 1$ available that best mal¢hes the
need$ of its client's populatiorl.
Public benefit
Cuan Mhuire offers a place of rehabililation and support to those with addiclion is$ue$. The charity operates an open
door approach in which admission to the r65idenlial programme$ can be accessed through communily addiction
services hospilal$ and individuals themselves,
On admission Cuan Mhuire provides a safe and Structured environment in which a residential rehabililation programrne
is determined either through a twelve week alcohol and 9aMbling programme or a Iweniy week drugs programme, An
integrated ¢arè programme 1$ established Ihrou9hout the individual's involvement wilh Cuan Mhuire from the point of
entryr lo eomplelion of Ihè programme and to their reintegration into the eommunity,
Cuan Mhuire hag a re$idential ¢apaeily of ninely.two beds at thèir location on the Dublin Road, Newry. Within the year
421 individuals availed of Ihe charity's rèhabilitation prgramme$ of which 94•/• of Ihe$e individuals $oughl hèlp from
aleohol and drug related igsue$.From the lotal admissions 670/0 Completed their individual programmes though Cuan
Mhuire continues lo Strive to meet the heeds of those who, for one rèason or anolher, did not slay with thèir programme
lo eompletion.
The ¢harity provides care and $upporl to individuals al each stagè of their involvernenl in the rehabilitation programme
and this èxlends to the provision of aftereare care services, Cuan Mhuire ¢onsider$ aflereare to play a vital parl in the
po$t.re$idenls road to rèeovery. To this extent during the year Cuan Mhuire registered 3,200 atlendèes to their Dublin
Road cenlre and oulrea¢h cenlres in Belfa$l and Omagh for aftercare support and guidance.

STRATEGIC REPORT
Principal funding $our¢es
The principal funding $our¢es for the charity are 'Health & Social Caro Board (HSCB) and Tlsupporling People,.
Included within in¢oming re$ourcès is a total of £165,000 received from the Health & Social Care Board with £424,970
from Supporting People. Other fundxng comes from the Northern Ireland Hou$ing Exeeulive and through voluntary
¢ontribution$ from residents,
Funding was also, re¢eived from the Magill Tru$t of 212,480 logelher with £2,400 from the Cornrnunily Development
& Heallh Network lo aid the charity's ongoing objectives of $upport and 9uidan¢e to those wilh addiGtion issues.
Cuan Mhuire also rèlied upon funding rèceived throughoul the financial year from donaliort$ and lund raising activities.
Ihve$tmenl poli¢y and abjeetives
Aside from retaining a prudenl amount in reserves each year mo$1 of the charily'$ funds are to be spent in the short lerm
io thèrè are few fund$ for long tèrm inve$lrnènt.
Re$erve$ policy
The Dire¢lor$ and the Local Leadership Group has examined the charity'$ requirÈrnènl$ for reserves in light of th& main
ri$k$ lo Ihe organisation, 11 ha$ established a policy whereby the unreilrieled funds not ¢ommilled or invested in tangible
fixed assets held by thè charity should be between 3 and 6 months expenditure. Budgeted expenditure for 2023124 is
approximately £1,275,000 and therefore the target is between E318 750 and £637,500 of general unrèstricted furtdg. The
res&rve$ are required to meet not only the workihg capital requirements of Ihe eharity but al$rJ in conjunelion with the
dèvelopmenl project a$ described in the below paragraph.
Thè actual r&$ervei al 31 March 2024 amount 10 £767,668 which exceeds the average target figure of £478 125 for
unre$lrieted funds. In oalculating reserve$ Ihe net book value of fixed a$sels held1£7,668,828) havè been excluded. This
surpassed the policy larg01 of 3 to 6 months.
Tho Dire¢tors arè aware of the evènts o¢¢urring within the finan¢ial year and will ¢onlinue to keep under ¢on$lant
review. It remain$ Ihe $lrategy of the ¢harity to Conlinue to build rèserves and apply resourcès to the charity's obJe¢lives
and mi$$ion.
DEVELOPMENT
The eonstruction of additional long term residenlial a¢¢omModalion, which continued in Ihis finan¢ial year, was
completed and formally opened on 28 June 2024. The newly opened aeeommodalion at the chariiyls location on the
Dublin Road will provide twelve two bedroom aparlment$. This a¢coMmodalion will provide urgently needed support
lor those who are homele$$ or for Iho$e who need additional timè a$ part of Ihe Continuum of support Ihal $uslains
reeovery and miniMi*e$ relapse lo their addi¢tion.

In 90ing forward the ¢harity has foeused Iheir atlentson on bolh the phy$ieal and menlal well.being of their $6rvi¢e uier$
a$ ah extension to their rehabililalion programme. Wilh support from benefa¢tor8 Cuan Mhuirè have developed and
¢reated a slate ol the arl gym allowin9 resident$ a place where they havè spaco to Ihemselves during their rehabilitation
time wilhin Cuan Mhuiro.
To en$ure the ¢ontinuity of the quality of thè rehabilialion programmes provided Cuan Mhuirè undertakes the $ervi¢es of
CHKS, a leading health and soeial oar• a$$uranee and a¢¢redilation companyi to annually as$e$g th• charity's
performance. Ac¢redilalion was awarded by not only CHKS bul also by 1$0 ¢n Ihèir programme delivery to $ervic8
users,

The organisation is a eharilable Company lirnited by guarantee, incorporated on the 5th October 1998 and registered as a
¢harily in 1998. The Company was established under a memorandum of a510eialion which e$lablished the obje¢lg and
power$ of th& Charilable eompany and 15 govèrned under 11$ Arlicle$ of Assooiation. In the event of the ¢ompany being
wound up mèmbèrs are required to contribute an amount not exceeding £1,
The Directors of tha Company for the purposes of ¢harily law and under Ihe company'$ article$ of associalion shall
manage the busine$s of the Gompany and exèrcise all the powers of the Company. Eaeh year a dire¢lor $hall retire by
rotation, Mr Lèonard Duffy will retire by rolation and bein9 eligible offerg himself for re.ele¢tion. Due lo the nature of
the charity's work the Direclors $eek lo ènsure that the needs of the service users are appropriately refle¢ted though the

supervision of Ihe slaff team and ertguring that th& leam continue lo develop their $kill$ and working practieès in line
with good practice,

The Trustees are familiar with the praclical work of th8 charity. Additionally new trustees are invited and encouraged lo
familiarisè thèmselve$ with Ihe work of the charity and in the ¢ontexl within which it operate$.
