The Junction Club Annual Report 2023
Annual Report for year ending December 2023
The Trustees of the Junction Club are happy to submit their Annual Report and summary of accounts for the period January 2023 – December 2023.
During the year the members were involved in a number of projects and activities.
-
Arts Care – The Junction Club have enjoyed working with Carmel from Arts Care who facilitated Dance & Relaxation sessions for us on a Thursday morning at their dance studio in Bloomfield Avenue. We continue to avail of these workshops.
-
Belfast Hills Partnership – Throughout the year we have worked with Jim Bradley and other members of staff from BHP who facilitate weekly walks in and around the Belfast area as well as weekly talks on Zoom. The Club members thoroughly enjoy getting to explore the outdoors on a regular basis and will continue to avail of these sessions.
-
Equal Notes – A number of Club members have taken part in the Equal Notes choir facilitated by Karen Diamond in The Hub at Cityside. Other members of the group have enjoyed joining in online for a singalong.
-
Internet Safety Training – Members completed an online safety training course facilitated by Orchardville Society and the Consumer Council. We learned how to be safe while online, including how to spot a scam and the importance of not sharing personal information on the internet.
-
Healthy Eating education - We completed a number of healthy eating courses this year which include “I Can Cook It”, “the Good Food Toolkit” and “Move More and Eat Well to Feel Better”. We really enjoyed learning how to cook new recipes while educating ourselves on how to make healthier food choices.
-
Disability Sports NI - We have enjoyed attending sport sessions at Lough Moss every Friday with DSNI. We take part in different activities each week which include Pickle Ball, Boccia, New Age Curling and we particularly enjoy using the Ability Bikes.
-
Engage with Age – Anna from Engage with Age has provided us with monthly arts & crats workshops, we really enjoy getting creative and have been delighted with what we have produced each session.
-
Strand Arts Partnership – We took part in our third project with SAP. This year our movie theme was “The Wizard of Oz”. This involved 2 music workshops and 3 arts & craft workshops where we learned a number of songs from the movie and produced artwork using the same theme. This project culminated in our screening day which we hosted at The Skainos Centre, we used our artwork to decorate the venue, performed the songs we learned and showed the movie on the cinema screen provided by SAP. We invited our friends from other clubs and Edgcumbe Day Centre. The day was a huge success.
-
Community Arts Partnership – We completed 4 workshops with CAP in October. We really enjoyed getting creative during this project. The artist Therese taught us a number of new skills including printing and stencilling. We were thrilled with our completed pieces of work each week. We finished the project by collaboratively designing a large “Junction Club” sign to get put up in our group room.
-
Community Sports Network – We participated in a 12-week programme of activities provided by CSN. Each week the facilitators provided us with something different from target games to drumming and everything in-between. We look forward to working with them again in the future.
-
Macmillan Coffee Morning – One of our last projects of the year was hosting a coffee morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. All the members contributed to the coffee morning by supplying cakes and buns, decorating the room, serving tea & coffee and welcoming guests. The coffee morning was very successful and we raised a total of £358.05.
-
Outings – We enjoyed a number of outings throughout the year including: Trips on the train to Lisburn, day trip to Holywood, Belfast Christmas market, The Pantomime at The Grand Opera house as well as days enjoying a shopping trip to Abbey Centre and spending some afternoons in Refresh café for coffee.
Upcoming projects
In the new year we hope to continue working with a number of our current partners. We also hope to begin sourcing new activities and funding opportunities as requested by the members and committee members of The Junction Club.
