|Main aims/Actvites of Derriaghy Village
Community Associaton|DVCA seek to provide a holistc service provision
for those who are marginalised in that they are
either no longer accessing services which may be
able to meet their needs. Examples of this would
be young mothers, lone parents, low income
families, elderly, vulnerable young adults and the
disabled. We engage with residents who fall
outside the statutory provisions of the area,
through accredited and non accredited
programmes whilst promotng social welfare
interest such as recreaton and improving life
conditons. We deliver programmes which are
community lead whilst working together with
statutory agencies to build relatonships, build
community capacity, improve employment
opportunites, improve community safety,
improve health & safety and through peer
relatons pass on knowledge to children and
young people.|

_OBJECTS_
_The Associaton is established to:_
_2.1_
_relieve poverty, sickness, and the aged_
_and to promote the beneft of the inhabitants of_
_the Derriaghy Village area of Lisburn and its_
_environs (hereinafer described as “the area of_
_beneft”) without distncton of age, gender, race,_
_politcal, religious of other opinion, by associaton_
_the statutory authorites, voluntary organizaton’s_
_and inhabitants in a common efort to advance_
_educaton, and to provide facilites in the interests_
_of social welfare for recreaton or other leisure-_
_tme occupaton, with the object of improving the_
_conditons of life for the said inhabitants_|
|Achievements|Throughout the reportng period, DVCA has
contnued to work to support and improve the
lives of
residents.
Our Community Garden has been a positve
development. Thanks to DVCA volunteers and
support, in
partcular from the Council, the area has been
transformed and become a real community hub.
As well as
a place to grow vegetables and plants, it’s the
home of our chickens, and ofers us a space to
hold
community events. The Housing Executve
recognised the work put into the garden, and the
impact this
has had in the community, by awarding DVCA-
The Rural Community Spirit Award and Andrew
Malcolm�The Community Champion Award in
their 2021 Rural Awards.
We have a run a number of successful community
events, including our Summer fun day, our
Christmas|
switch on event, Halloween kid’s party etc. We continue to attend the Housing Executive’s HCN meetings and hold our own Interagency meeting to get updates from agencies on work happening in the estate and raise issues & queries affecting residents. We have been working closely with Council and our Lisburn North Councillors on the land at the former Derriaghy Primary School, and the need for community facilities on this site. This has been a long, and at times frustrating process, but one that we will continue with, as we continue to push for the redevelopment of the site to include vital and necessary community facilities _._
