THE TRUSTEES REPORT
APRIL 2026
THE VILLAGE CLUB POYNTZPASS
The village club meets every Wednesday mornings in the Community Hall, Poyntzpass from September to June with breaks at Christmas and Easter. During the first hour tea, coffee and biscuits are provided with an opportunity for a chat and building up friendships. We have an average of 22 members attending and we encourage other members of the community to join by placing notices in three local church bulletins. Members contribute £2 per week to meet catering and rental costs – we are entirely self-financing and do not seek any outside funding. Members record their attendance and contributions weekly and this record is maintained by the treasurer. A meeting of the trustees is arranged from time to time when a programme of activities is agreed, and the financial statement is presented.
During the second hour we arrange a range of activities including film, crafts, quizzes, with visits from school and u3a choirs, as well as other community groups who provide entertainment. We have also arranged visits to garden centres. Members of the local History Society in Poyntzpass also come along and deliver talks. We enjoy significant support of the Community Centre Committee who charge only a nominal rent for the use of the hall and its amenities.
The club continues to play an important role in preventing social isolation for older members of the wider community – all in our eighties or nineties.
