Update on Activities
As groups continue to recover from the adverse impact of lock downs the community centre continues to be a hub for community activity, learning and socialising for people in the Moneyglass, Toome and Duneane areas who enjoy outcomes such as improved mental, physical and social health, and wellbeing.
Dance classes remain popular every Friday evening with the Allen School of Dancing. Young Doves Youth Club has not reopened since lock down and therefore there has been an increase in bookings for training sessions by St. Ergnat’s and for fundraising events. Since the last report, the GAA has opened a new football pitch on the lough beg road. Patrons using the community centre can now park at the pitch and walk the short distance to the centre on a footpath. This will increase capacity at the centre and open opportunities for the football club.
There has been an increase in bookings for private functions such as birthday parties. We had a successful annual general meeting in November 2023 and took actions to increase the number of trustees. The committee continue to meet monthly to ensure that the centre is safe for users and sustainable. We are grateful to centre users for continued use, to the trustees and to Antrim and Newtownabbey council for funding, advice, and support.
