Charitable purposes

The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include the provision of funds for other charitable and community organisations as well as individuals and encouraging volunteers to help alleviate poverty and improve conditions of education, health and well-being and family life of children, teenagers and adults in Northern Ireland and overseas which in turn promotes the development, education and experiences of young people.

Summary of the main activities

The Trust Fund manages funds raised for its purposes and oversees the application of funds for and implementation of any service projects which might be entered into in the furtherance of those purposes. The Fund is used to facilitate a wide array of different projects in the areas of vocational and community service, together with assisting fundraising for other charities, especially in overseas aid. Vocational and youth service projects include the provision of experienced volunteers in interview and goal setting practice, together with exchange programmes for the development of youth, and encouraging leadership. The fund contributes to international projects such as Shelterbox and to the Rotary Foundation charity projects through its Annual Programmes Fund and the End Polio Now programme which benefits from matching funding from the Gates Foundation.

During the year the Trust Fund made donations totalling £24,741 .

Policy on reserves

The Trust Fund holds endowment funds which have been provided to the charity in earlier years. Under the terms of the donation, the charity has elected to retain the assets and use the income to support its charitable activities. Balances in restricted funds are only held temporarily pending transfer to the beneficiaries concerned. The unrestricted fund balance represents income raised but not yet utilised in supporting charitable activities.
