STRUCTURE AND MANAGEMENT
The Klrk Sesslon
The charity trustees of the congregation are the members of its Kirk Session. Under the
congregation's governing document. The Code, the book of the constitution and government
of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland, the Kirk Session seeks to watch over and promote the
spiritual Interest of the congregation and of persons not connected with any congregation
who are within its bounds. It ensures pastoral care is in place in the congregatlon and seeks
to furthcr the cotttribution of the Church to Christian witness and service in the local
community. The Kirk Session has delegated to its Congregational Committee the temporal
affairs of the congregation including administering all funds and property belonging to the
congregation. Members of the Kirk Session are ex-officio members of the Congregational
Committee.
The Kirk Session conslsts of the ordained minister and the ruling elders of the congregation.
All members are entitled to propose. speak. and exercise equal votes at meetings, except that
of the Moderator - the minister in active duty in the congregation - has no deliberative but
only a casting vote. Stated meetings of the Kirk session are held up to eight times each year.
To be chosen for the office of the eldership in the congregation a person must be a voting
member and a regular attendant on its ordinances. The selection of those proposed to be
called to the office can be either by the congregation or by the Kirk Session. Members are
elected if they obtain two-thirds of those who vote.
Presbytery
Under the Presbyterian Church in Ireland's form of governance the corporate oversiBht of a
congregation is the responsibility of a Presbytery which superintends generally the spiritual
and temporal affairs of the congregations assigned to it by the General Assembly of the
Presbyterian Church in Ireland. Elmwood Presbyterian Church has been assigned to the
Dromore Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland. The membership of the Presbytery
consists mainly of the active ministers of congregations a55igned to it by the General
Assembly, ministers who have retired from active duty and an elder appointed by the Kirk
Session of each congregation.

The fjeneral Assembly
The General Assembly is the supreme court of the Church, representing in one body the whole
C_hiArr.h and actin8 as Itg siipreme legislative, administrative, and judicial authority, in dealing
with all matters brought before it. The General Assembly is norrnally constituted during the
third week in June for worship and to conduct its business. At the end of business, it is
dissolved. The membership of the General Assembly consists mainly of the active ministers
of each congregation, retired ministers and a representative elder appointed by the Kirk
Session of each congregation.
DESCRIPTION AND PURPOSE
Elmwood Presbyterian Church is a congregation of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland. The
Presbyterian Church in Ireland, as a Reformed Church within the wider body of Christ is
grounded in the Scriptures and exists to love and honour God through faith in HIS Son and bv
the power of His Spirit, and to enable her members to play their part in fulfilling God's mlssion
to His and our world.
The congregation's mission purpose is 'Demonstrating God's presence in our communit¢.
Depending on God's grace, we exist to bring Glory to God by
reoching people for Jesus
building up followers of Jesus, and
sending them to seNe Jesus, both locally and to the ends of the earth.
In living out its mission and vision as a family of God's people, the congregation 5eek5 to be

In all of thls we seek to be Biblical, intergenerational, outward-looking and innovative,

family in Ireland.
The congregatlon meets for worship every Sunday and visitors are welcome to join. The
Sacrament of the Lord's Supper is observed on several occasions during the year and all those
who have been baptised and who have made a profession of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ are
admitted to the Lord's Supper. The congregation holds regular bible study meetings, mainly
in small groups, and has a wide range of organisations including:

ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE
Worship and prayer
The congregation normally meet5 for worship each Sunday at 11.30 am and twice per month
at 6.30 pm. During the week the 8ible Study and Home Group programme provides an
opportunity for members to meet for fellowship, to study the scriptures and for a time of
prayer.
As well as regular se￿iCe5, during the year there was one Sacrament of Baptism as compared
with four in the previous year. Four new Communicants were welcomed and received by the
congregation, three on profession of faith and one on transfer from another fellowship. On
31 December 2025, 217 individuals were listed as communlcant members with 163 taking
part in Communion at least onte during the year.
Pastoral Care
Members of the congregation who are unable to attend church due to sickness or age are
Vlslted on a regular basis by the minister, assistsnt minister, deaconess. elders or by one of
the congregation's pastoral visitors. They are also able to be involved in Sunday morning
worship via the live streaming of the service on YouTube or to be part of the worship via this
channel at another time of their choosin8.
Presbytery
The congregation was represented at the regular meetings of Presbytery by the minister and
one of the elders. This provides an important link between the congregations and the wider
structures of the church.

The minister and one of our elder5 were nominated to attend the meeting of the General

2025, and to attend the Special Assembly held in the same location on 18 De￿mber 2025.
The congregation supports the United Appeal for Mission which is a central fund of the
Presbyterian Church in Ireland. This fund enables congregations to support the wider mission
of the denomination and to do mlssion and outreach on a denominational basis beyond what
the congregation could do on its own. The United Appeal Fund provides financial support for
Mission Workers at home and overseas, assists congregations with the deployment of locally
based staff, enable church planting, provides grant support for the upkeep of church
premises, assists with the running costs of Union Theological College - the Church's training
college for ministry students, and financially supports congregations in the areas of worship.

Property
In a building of the size and age of Elmwood there are always items of equipment or parts of
the building fabric that require attention for repair, maintenance or replacement and 2025
was no exception. Some of the work undertaken was of a minor nature, such as the
replacement of a hand drier in 3 toilet area, the provision of a new post box and the
replacement of carpeting. Electrical work included general maintenance work, the

replacement of some trip switches, the replacement of some cabling for the intruder alarm
and some external li8htin8 was replaced also. During the year work was undertaken and
ompleted to ensure that the water supply system to our building complied with the relevant
regulations.
Withln the Main Hall some ventilation problems are being investigated, and action was taken
to clean walls where some mould had developed. The major roof maintenance and repair
scheme is being evaluated, and additional work may be required to areas of flashing.
Some small items of A/V equipment were replaced or acquired during the year.
Work progressed during the year on the planning of the new external slgnage and at the year-
end Planning Permission was awaited to enable the scheme to proceed.
Significant progress was made during the year on the development of plans for the extension
of the main building and the upgrading of the heating and electrical servites. The Building
Development Group has been working closely with the architect led Design Team to develop
detailed specifications, costing5 and plans which will be shared with the congregation for
consideration and comment.
During the year some work was undertaken at the manse including the provision of a new oil
tank, the replacement of some fencing, the re5urfacin8 of the asphalt around the building and
the replacement of the central heating boiler.
Pastoral Care
The pastoral care of the congregation has been malntained by the Minister - Rev Andrew
Thompson, Deaconess- Roberta Irvine. Licensed Assistant Minister, Graeme Read, Elders and
a dedicated team of volunteers.
The Kirk Session and Congregational Committee maintained their normal pattern of meetings
throuEhout the year.
The Minister, Kirk Session, Congregational Committee and all Church leaders look to the
future with confidence and with the enabling power and presence of God endeavourto reach,
build and send many to serve, love and follow Him, for His Glory alone.
ORGANISATIONS
The regular weekly organisations and activities in the congregation could be categorised in
the following broad area5.'
Youth & Children's Ministry
Uniformed organisations seek to provide for the social, physical and spiritual development of
children from 3-18 years. The Girls, Brigade has an average weekly attendance of 100 across
the sections, while the equivalent number in Boys, Brigade is 90. The Christian education of
children is sought through a Sunday School group- JAM wlth an average attendance of 25

whlch meets prior to the morning service; during the service there is also age-appropriate
teaching In KID'S Church which had an average attendance of 20 children. The development
of young people is further SOL¢ght through the provision of a Youth Club - The Wood, with an
average attendance of 42 and a Sunday evening Youth Fellowship group called FISH of 18 in
attendance.
Outreach
The congregation seeks to build bridges into and serve the local community through a thriving
Adultnoddler group,. a Small Parent-lnfant project Irun in conjunction with Barnardo'sl; a
Community Café,. a woman's Community Bible Study, a Griefshare Support Group, together
with annual Community activities during the summer months and at other significant dates
such as Advent.
Fellow￿hIP
The congregation seeks to offer opportunities for various groups to come together to learn
and share with one another. The Women Together - Presbyterian Women's group meets
monthly for a varied programme with an average of 25 women in attendance. A150 meeting
monthly, the Men's Fellowship group brings together an average of 15 men on a Saturday
morning for breakfast, conversations and a talk given by a member of the congregation or
other invited gucsts from the wider community. A seniors. group - Young at Heart - meets
twice per month providing a varied programme for a group of around 25 senior members.
Finally, up to 75 member5 of the congregation are involved in a Home Group programme,
whSch sees small groups meetin8 weekly to study the Bible, pray and share encouragement
and fellowship.
Volunteers
The Trustees wish to acknowledge their deep appreciation of those who give their time and
talents by serving on committees and work groups, helpin8 With organisations. and other
church activities, like hospitality, and providing lifts to and from worship to name lust two.
PU8LIC BENEFIT STATEMENT
The Presbyterian Church in Ireland meets the public benefit requirement by providing benefit
to its members and the public by making known the Christian Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.
The direct benefits which flow from the purposes of the Church include the gaining of an
understanding in Christian beliefs as set out in the Bible and In the Church's subordinate
standards Ithe Westminster Confession of Faith and the Shorter and Larger Catechisms)
leading to spiritual and moral development and opportunitles for response to Bible teaching.
In turn, this framework lead5 to practical expressions of Christian beliefs and standards in the
local community such as through the care of those in need (including the sick, disabled and
bereaved).
Commonly, the above benefits are delivered locally by congregations and their members or
are facilitated through presbyteries or are organised and delivered centrally bv the
Presbyterian Church in Ireland. Local delivery is facilitated by central resources in almost all

Public acces5 is made known usSng noticeboards, printed material, press
Advprtisement, wèb%iteg. and social media or in other ways.
The benefits are demonstrated through regular evaluation of the services and informal and
ad-hoc feedback from members, their families, and members of the public.
The purpose does not lead to harm. The only private benefit flowing from our purpose is
related to Ministers, Global Mission Workers, Deaconesses, Irish Mission Workers and Lay
Agents who receive benefits because of their holding an office of the church or employment.
However, this is incidental and necessary to further our charitable purpose. There are no
other private benefits. The beneficiaries of this purpose are mernbers, their familie5, Other
individuals that the Presbyterian Church in Ireland is in direct and indirect contact with, the
community in which pastoral services are provided and other communities throughout
Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, and worldwide which benefit from our engagement
wlth and 5UPPOrt for both Christian and other secular organisations, charities and individual
members of the public.
The Kirk Session has had regard to the Charity Commissions public benefit requirement
statutory guidance.
FINANCIAL REVIEW
The congregation's main source of income is members, contributions through the Weeklv
Freewill Offerin6. The numbcr of contributors remained at 179. the same as it was durins the
previoLts year of 2024, donating a total of £240,482 {£205,044 in 2024}. Most members make
their freewill offering5 through electronic bank transfers.
Total Income of the congregation during 2025 was £348.399, an increase of £52.886
gimpared to £295,513 iii Lli¥ yieviuus yetir. Total expendlture for 2025 was £362,614 an
increase of £58.858 on the total expenditure of £303,756 during 2024.
RESPONSIBILITIES IN RESPEcf OF THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS
The Trustees are responsible for preparing the Annual Report and the financial statements in
accordance with applicable law and United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice.
The trustees are required to prepare financial statements for each financial year which give a
true and fair view of the situation of the congregation and the financial activities for that year.
In preparin8 the financial statements the Trustees are required to:
select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistentlv
make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent
prepare the financial statements on the going concern basis unless it is inapproprlate
to presume that the Funds will continue in operation.

The trustèes are responsible for keeping adequate accounting records that are sufficient to
show and explain the fund5 transactions and disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time
the financial position of the congregations and enable them to ensure that the financial
statements comply with the Statement of Recommended Practice"Accounting and Reporting
by Charities11 January 20151". They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the
congregation and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection o* fraud
and other irregularities.
GOING CONCERN
The activities of the congregation are dependent on ongoing contributions from its members.
The trustees are of the opinion that the congregation has sufflclent resource5 at the date of
approval of these financial statements to meet commitments which will arise in the year from
the date of signing this report and subject to the continuing support from members to fund
on an ongoing basis the congregation's current activities and other financial commitments.
RESERVES POLICY
The trustees have considered the level of unrestricted net current assets that it is appropriate
to hold takins account of current and ongoing commitment=. It is the policy of the Trustees
to hold at least three months, normal expenditLsre, as the funding of its present activities is
dependent on the ongoing financial support of members. At the end of the year unrestricted
net current assets were £104,490, which is more than three months, normal expenditure,
which trustees consider prudent.
RISK REVIEW
A review of major risks has been undertaken by the Trustees and systems and procedures
implemented to manage identified risks. The principal risks are in relation to the likelihood
of reputational damage and financial risks associated with the expectation of ongoing
financial support trom members. These risks are mitigated by the Irustees, and the
Congregational Committee, regularly monitoring the various activities of the congregation at
stated meetings and by encouraging members in their regular giving and considered
spending.

ACCOUNTING POLICIE5
BASIS OF FINANCIAL STATEMENTS
The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with Accounting and Reporting
by Charities.. Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their
accounts in accordance with Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Ireland
IFRS1021 (effective l January 20151.
The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention except for
investment a55ets, which are shown at market value. The financial statements include all
transactions, assets and liabilitie5 for which the congregation is responsible in law. They do
not include the accounts of church groups that owe their affiliation to another body, northose
that are informal gatherings of church members.
FUND ACCOUNTING
Endowment funds are funds, the capital of which must be retained either permanently or at
the congregation's discretion,. the income derived from the endowment is to be used either
as restricted or unrestricted Income funds depending upon the purpose for whlch the
endowment was established inthe first place. Elmwood does not haveanyendowmentfunds
at the present time.
Restricted funds comprise lal income from endowments which is to be expended only on the
restricted purposes intended by the donor and Ibl revenue donations or grallts for a specifi
congregational activity intended by the donor. Where these funds have unspent balances.
interest on their pooled investment is apportioned to the individual funds on an average
balance basis.
Unrestricted funds are income lunds, whlch are to be spent on the congregatlon's general
purposes. Designated funds are general funds set aside by the congregation for use in the
future.
INCOMING RESOURCES

PENSION
The minister and deaconess of the congregation are members of the Presbyterian Church in
Ireland Pension Scheme120091. This is a scheme operated by the Presbyterian Church in
Ireland, a separate registered charity. The congregation pays an assessment to the
Presbyterian Church in Ireland equivalent to the employerfs pension contribution for the
Scheme and based on the stipend paid to the minister and deaconess.
The Presbyterian Church in Ireland Penslon Scheme120091 is a funded Scheme of the defined
benefit type, providins defined benefit5 based on career average revalued salary. The
Scheme ha5 assets held in a separately administered fund managed by a board of trustees.
The Presbyterian Church and the Scheme Trustees have aRreed a funding plan to ensure the
Scheme is sufficiently funded to meet current and future obligations.

RELATED PARTY TRANSACTIONS
Two of the trustees received remuneration. The minister of the congregation received
remuneration of £46,122 and expenses of £8,122 for acting in that capacity. Pension
contributions of £8,071 were paid by the congregation in respect of the minister to the
Presbyterian Church in Ireland Pension Scheme 120091. The music leader received
remuneration of £6,065. No pension contributions were paid in relation to this post. None
of the other trustees received any remuneration or expenses during the year in connection
with their duties.
During the year the congregation contributed the following amounts to Funds of the General
Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland a separate charity
£15,880 for congregational assessments
£11,531 towards the United Appeal
The congregation contributed El,380 towards Presbytery Assessments durin8 the year.
There were no other related party transartions.
