Brassneck Th88lre Company also operates a youth company, '8rassneck Youth.. Its prsm8ry focus is nurturing children
and young people by providlng them with professional arts Iralnlng, Maste￿lasseS and workshops in order to
encourage access and participation in the arts while equipping them with the reqUI￿d tools lo become the industry
professionals of tomorrow. Another key priority of the company is ensuring the accessibility of theatre throughout the
human lifecycle= from promoting access to theatre from Ihe very start through education. as well a$ creating
opportunities for children arKI young people for those considering a career in the arts.
The vision of Brassneck Theatre Company is to provide quality. professional theatre to local communitles and further
afield by focusing on the development of new writing which addresses themes of identity. history. culture and religious
and racial tolerance. Our productions will continue to be premiered in West B81fasl. before touring extensively across

Structure
Brassneck Theat￿ Company has a management committee of up to 6 members who meet quarterfy and are
responsible for the strategic direction and policles of the tharity. At present th8 charity has 6 members from a vaiiety
of professional backgrounds relevant to the work of the charily.
A stheme of delegation is in place and day to day responsibility of the services rest with the Company Manager and
Artistic Dire¢lor. They are responsible for ensuring the charity dèlivets the services specified and that key performance
indicators a￿ met sUb￿0mMittees are in place to review some areas In greater detail e.g. finance and HR.
programming, marketing.

The Company wa5 incorpor81&d on 6th fvlay 2009 as Brassneck Theatre Company. The company is constituted under
a Memoranduffl and is governed under ils Articles of Association.
There have been amendment8 to th8 govemlng documents in the year.
The Company has been regisl8red with the Charity Commission for Northem Ireland from 30th June 2016 under
registration number NIC105096.

Brassneck Theatre Company meet the public b8n8fil requirement in the following ways., as slated in our Mission
Stslement we were established in ord8T to satisfy the huge appetite for quality professional theatre in this part of the
city.
Since 2007 the company has played an integral part in everyday Wesl Belfast society by enriching people's lives in the
communities that we sgrve. Our work reflects all of our Citizens and is accessible lo all. We have provided a plafform
for local artists, writers. musicians and technicians to have their voices heard and talents showcased on a local, national
and inlemalional platlorm. The youth training strand of our work provides quality. affordable professional standard
perfomiing arts training lo children and young people from disadvantaggd backgrounds. Brassngck Thèatre Company
has been at the fO￿front of devgloping new aUdien￿S. We premiere all of our work in non-tradilional venues such as
social clubs or sports halls in order lo break down the baffier for new audiences. This affords our audience members
the opportunity lo see th8ir stories In a setting that is comfortable and affordable the benefit of this is the promotion of
self-value and self osl8em as our audiencas leave feeling valued as cillzens when they see their stories told through
the medium of Ihealro. By keeping lickel prices low and coinpetilive, we find that we engage a18rge number of citlzens
who may not usually attend the theatre on a re9ular basis. People who may wnsider the arts to be Snaccessible du& lo
class misconceplicns or preconcepllons that the arts are simply inaccessible lo them through Ihelr financial or social
status. Our prices have not changed for eleven years now, from flagship lo region81 and rural. untraditional venues,
thus assuring access lo the arts for all our citizens as well as building a sustainable sector. Community D8velopment
and Engagement happens naturally throughout all strands of our work.. this is done through th8 development of new
stories, the nurturing of new wri19rs, actors, technicians, the opportunity of participatory arts training to children and
young peopla, the provision of quality arts is) areas where il is mosl out of reath.
Indirect benoficiaries of our work include young peoplg placed on work experience, a sharing of r&sources with other
relevant arts companies. contribution to local govornmenl strategy and policy. inl¢rdiew8 with PHD studen15 to infom

Revl•w of Activltles, Achiovgments and Perfom)ance
New Writing
Brassneck Theatre Company have been developlng, supporting and nurturing emerging playwrights for the last 16
years. We do this by provlding them wlth a professional platForm. In the year 21122 we supported 2 new plays.
Participation
8rassnèck Youth young training programmg provldes a platfom for chlldren and young people aged 4-1810 participate
in quality, affordable performing arts trai ning. We gngaged with over 80 children ond young people agèd 4-18 in th8
year 19120, this included working in online and face lo face. We Gollaborated with various youth and arts on creating
short films addressing issues around mental ill health and the promotion of positive rn$nlal health. Our new online
provision offering parti¢ipanls th& opportunity lo work wlh many a￿sts from various disciplines. Brassneck Youth
worked w¢lh 16 different artists in 21122.
Collaboration
Brassneck wot*s collaboratively with many different artlSti¢ disciplines and artists throughout all our work. Throughout
21122 we worked on 2 productions and worked with 20 different artists.

Financial Results
At the end ol the financial year the company has assets of £115,068 (2021.. £89,962) and liabilities of £1,300 {2021=
£1,300). The net assets of the company have increased by £25,10612021.. £2,235).
Going Concem
Having reviewed the resources available and considered the ongoing recovery of the performing arts sector post the
COVID-19 pandemic, the directors believe that the company has sufficient resources available to enable il lo continue
lo meet its ongoing obligations as and when they fall dué for a period of at least 12 months from the dale of approval
of the financial statements. In fom)ing their assessment. the directors considered the company s current financial
position. its income streams, and ils funding ￿qUIrementS to April 2024.
Accordingly, the director5 consider it appropriate to continue lo adopt the going Gon¢em basis in preparation of the
rinancial statements.

I have examined the charity accounts as required under section 65 of the Charities Act and my examination

The examination included a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the

Brassneck Theatre Company is a company limited by guarantee incorporated in Northern Ireland. The
registered office of the company 1$ 2 Hannahstown Hill, Belfast Co. Anlrim, BT17 OLT, Northern Ireland which
is also the princlpal place of buslnes5 of the Company The flnanclal Statements have been presented in Pound
Sterling 1£) which is also the fijnclional currency of the Gompany.
SUMMARY OF SIGNIFICANT ACCOUNTING POLICIES

material in relation lo the charity's financial statements.
Basls of prgparatlon
Tho financial stslements have been prepared under the historical cost convention. modified lo include certain
items al fair value. The financial statements havo been prepared in accordance with the Statement of
Recommended PractirE ISORPI "Accounting and Reporting by Charities preparing their a￿Ounts in
accordence with the Finanaal Reporting Stsndard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland FRS 102"
applylng Section 1A of that Standard. The company is a public benefit entity as dofined by FRS 102.
Going concern
Having reviewed the rescHJrees available and considered the ongoing recovery of the performing arts sector
post the COVID-19 pandemic, the dlwloTr believe that the company has sufficient resources available lo
enable11 to conts'nue lo meet its ongoing obligations as and when they fall due for a p8riod of at least 12 months
from the dale of approval of the financial statements. In fomiing their assessment, the directors considered the
company's current financial FM)sltlon, ils income streams. and Ils funding requirements to April 2024.
Accordingly. the directors consider il appropriate lo continue lo adopt th8 going COr￿M basis in preparation of

Fund accounting
The following are the categorises of funds maintsined:

Reslricled funds represent income received which can only be used for particular purposes, as specified by the
donors. Such purposes are within the overall objectives of the Company.
Unrestrictsd funds
Unr8stricled funds consist of Goneral and Designated funds.
- General funds represent armunts which are expendable al the dI￿retion of the board, in furtherance of the
obj8cllves of the company.
Designated funds comprlse uniestrt'cted funds that the board has, at ils discretion, set aside for particular
purposes. These designations have an admlnislralive purpose only. and do not legally restrict the board's
discretion trj apply the fund.
Incomg
Voluntsry In￿Me or capilal is included in the Statement of Financial Activities when the company is legalty
entitled to It. its financial value can be quantified with reasonable certainty and there is reasonable certainty of
ils ultimate receipt. Entitlement to legacies is considered estsblished when the company has been notified of a
distribution to be made by the executors. Income received in advance of due performance under a wntract is
accounted for as deferred Inwme until earned. Grants for activities are recognised as income when the related
conditions forlggal entitlement have been met. All other income is accounted for on ar¢ accruals basis.
Expenditure
All resources expended are accounted for on an accruals basis. Charitable acliviti8s include costs of seNices
and grants. support costs and depreaation on ￿lated assets. Costs of generating funds similady indude
fundraising activities. Non-slaff costs not attributed to one category of adivity are allocated or apportty)ned pro-
rala to the staffing of the relevant seNl¢e. Finance, HR. IT and administralve staff costs are dlredy attributable
to individual activities by objective. Govemance costs are Ihose associated wlth constitutional and ststulory
requirements.
