Structure, governance and management

The charity is governed by its constitution and is constituted as a trust. Trustees are appointed and meet no less than 6 times per year.

Objectives and activities

The objects of the charity are to advance the education, by developing the capacity and skills of adults and young people with a learning disability (the beneficiaries) primarily, but not so as to exclude those with a physical or sensory disability in Northern Ireland and its environs by the promotion of the arts among the beneficiaries and to promote capacity building among them and in particular;

and ancillary to the foregoing to promote the accessibility of drama and theatre for people with disabilities in general and to educate the general public about the creative and artistic abilities of people with disabilities.

Achievements and performance

Stage Beyond had another very successful year. Apart from our outreach work we performed our show “Rom At The Inn”, our Christmas show at The Methodist Hall and performed our summer show “Access All Areas” at The Millennium Forum

Financial review

The charity had unrestricted reserves of £90,702 at 31 March 2025 (£61,929 – 2024).

The charity aims to hold 6 months running costs as reserves. This would be approximately £65,000.

Independent examiners

A resolution will be proposed at the AGM that Deborah O’Donnell Chartered Accountants be re-appointed as independent examiners to Stage Beyond Theatre Company for the ensuing year.

Independent examiner’s report to the trustees of Stage Beyond Theatre Company (charity number NIC104959) on the accounts for the year ended 31 March 2025 set out on pages 3 and 4

Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner

The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 65(3) of the Charities Act (Northern Ireland) 2008 and that an independent examination is needed.

Basis of independent examiner’s statement

My examination was carried out in accordance with general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair’ view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.

Independent examiner’s statement

In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention

  1. Which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in, any material respect, the requirements:

  2. to keep accounting records in accordance with section 63 of the Charities Act (Northern Ireland) 2008; and

  3. to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the 2008 Act
