The trustees have studied the NI Charity Commission’s statutory guidance on the Public Benefit requirement and consider that they have complied with it in full.

Structure and management

1[st] Aghadowey Squirrels is a standalone organisation which is a feeder organisation for the 1[st] Aghadowey Scout group. It’s membership is limited to young people aged four to six years of age living in the wider Aghadowey area. 1[st] Aghadowey Squirrels is an affiliated member of the Northern Ireland Squirrel Association. 1[st] Aghadowey Squirrels meets on Monday evenings between September and June. The group is managed in accordance with its constitution by members of its management committee. The management committee met two times during the year.

Purposes

The drey is established to promote the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potential as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of their local, national and international communities.

In the spring of 2016 we joined the Beavers in a litter pick at Tirkeeran picnic area in Garvagh. We also cleared weeds and completed a general tidy up and have since maintained the area. The Squirrels completed two Smile badges, I’m active and I’m caring. We also completed our own wild bird seed activity.

Financial Review

The total income for the financial year was £1010. After expenses of £807.99 there was a surplus for the year of £199.35. The opening balance in the bank at 1[st] April 2016 was £498.48. At the end of the financial year there was £686.75 in the bank and £11.08 cash in hand – totalling £697.83
