The Trustees present the Annual Report and Statements of Receipts and Payments and Assets and
Liabilities for Christ Church Londonderry for the year ended 31 December 2024
Objectives and Activities
The charitable purpose of the Church of Ireland is the advancement of religion.
The principal function of Christ Church Londonderry is the advancement of the Christian religion by
promoting, through the work of Christ Church Londonderry the whole mission of the Church,
pastoral, evangelistic, social and ecumenical. Being open to and engaging with society as a whole
and offering support for those needing help are fundamental to the practical delivery of the benefits
of Christianity.
As a result of activity in the pursuit of advancement of the Christian religion, Christ Church
Londonderry has custody of property and of records, materials and artefacts of significance to the
cultural and religious heritage and maintenance of which is undertaken by the Select Vestry of
Christ Church Londonderry.
Achievements, Performance & Public Benefits
Christ Church Londonderry have weekly services on Sunday mornings, and also hold special
services. This offers an environment of worship and prayer for the local community. Pastoral care is
provided for parishioners and those in the wider community. The church is also engaged in mission
in the local community and in the wider society.
A range of other activities is provided by Christ Church Londonderry either by the church directly or
through various church organisations, e.g. Choir, Sunday School, Mothers, Union, Thursday
Luncheon Club, Badminton. Bowls.
There is an effective inter-church co-operation within the local community, including involvement
with the Londonderry Churches Trust, the local Clergy, and the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity.
The Walled City Passion 2024 (WCP24) is a transformative event, building on the success
of festivals in 2022 and 2023. The festival attracted both new and returning visitors and deepened
their engagement with a thoughtfully curated program spanning Holy Week & Easter Monday. This
ambitious initiative was marked by a series of dynamic performances, fringe events, conferences,
and community engagement activities.
The activities outlined above demonstrate how Christ Church Londonderry continues to implement
its charitable purposes (i.e. the advancement of religion) and meets the public Benefit requirement.
Benefits to members of the public include contributing to spiritual well-being of participants and the
reinforcement of Christian values.
Christ Church Londonderry has mitigated any potential harm from the activities through the
implementation of the Church of Ireland Safeguarding Trust Policy, regarding children" Adult
Safeguarding, and Dignity in Church Life Policies.
Financial Review
The Parish income for the year was £147,130 with outgoings of £167,470 resulting in a deficit of
(£20,340). The unrestricted funds income include an Honourable Irish Society grant of £1,250 for

display material at the back of the church. An insurance payment of £15,000 for water damage in
the boiler house was also received during the year. The other main source of income is from free
will offerings and gift-aid claims.
The restricted funds include income of £69,476 and expenditure of £65,643 for the Walled City
Passion project. There is restricted interest of £2,065 received in the Choir Bursarylmusic Fund and
restricted donations of £5,749 were received for First Wednesday recitals in the Choir
Bursarylmusic Fund account.
The unrestricted expenditure for the year was £94,988 (2023 £63,392). Church repairs for 2024
was £35,418 (2023 £7,421) which includes repairs to the church's boiler. The restricted expenditure
for 2024 was £72,482 (2023 £86,621). The bank balance at 31 De￿mber 2024 is £58,662 of which
£28,607 is restricted funds. Overall, the financial outturn for 2024 is stable.
Going Concern
The Trustees have reviewed the Budgets for the year ahead and are satisfied that there are
adequate funds in place to ensure that the parish can continue its activities, and the financial
statements for the year ended 31 December 2024 can be signed off as a going concern.
Structure, Governance and Management
Governlng Document and Constitutlon of the Charity
Chapter111 of the Constitution of the Church of Ireland governs Parishes and Parochial
Organisation. The Select Vestry members are the Charity Trustees.
Recrultment and Appointment of Select Vestry (Trustees)
All members of the Church of Ireland, who are over the age of 18 and are either resident within the
parish or live elsewhere, but have been accustomed members of the congregation for at least three
months, may register as members of the general vestry of the parish, allowing them to attend and
vote at meetings of the general vestry and to stand for election to the Select Vestry. Meetings of the
general vestry are held at least once a year. The Select Vestry is elected as part of this General
Vestry meeting. The Select Vestry will hold their positions for a period of one year. Select Vestry
members may be re-elected annually, and there is no limit to the number of terms which may be
served.
Organisational Structure
The Select Vestry is responsible for the day to day management of the parish. The Select Vestry
consists of the member of the clergy serving in the parish, any curate assistant ("the curate"), the
church wardens, the glebe wardens and generally not more than twelve other members of the
general vestry elected at the General Vestry.
The Select Vestry is chaired by the incumbent or another member of the clergy officiating in the
parish. Select Vestry members are responsible for making decisions on matters of general concern
and importance to the parish, including deciding how parish funds are to be applied.
The Select Vestry meets at times fixed by the members or by the diocesan synod. Special meetings
may be convened at any time by the chairperson or the church wardens. In 2024 the Select Vestry
met four times during the year, and the average attendance was 85 %.

Compliance with Public Benefit
The parish has given careful consideration to the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland's
guidance on public benefit, to ensure that the activities entered into during the year have helped to
achieve the parish's objectives and activities, as well as providing public benefit.
Statement of Trustees, Responsibilities
The Trustees are responsible for preparing the Trustees, Report and the Statement of Re￿iptS and
Payments and Statement of Assets and Liabilities in accordance with applicable law and
regulations.
The law applicable to charities in Northern Ireland with income of less than £250,000 requires the
Trustees to prepare a Statement of Receipts and Payments and a Statement of Assets and
Liabilities for each financial year.
The Trustees are responsible for keeping accounting records that are sufficient to show and explain
the Parish's transactions and disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the assets and
liabilities of the Parish. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the Parish, and
hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.

Independent examiner's report to the charity trustees of Christ Church Londonderry
I report on the accounts of the Trust for the year ended 31 December 2024 which are set out on
pageslto 13
Respective responsibilities of charity trustees and examiner
As the charity's trustees you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordan￿ with
the Charities Act (Northern Ireland) 2008.
It is my responsibility to..
examine the accounts under section 65 of the Charities Act
follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Commission under
section 65(9)(b) of the Charities Act
state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
Basis of independent examiner's report
I have examined your charity accounts as required under section 65 of the Charities Act and my
examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charity
Commission for Northern Ireland under section 65(9){b) of the Charities Act.
My examination included a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of
the accounts presented with those records. It also included consideration of any unusual items or
disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as charity trustees concerning any
such matters.
My role is to state whether any material matters have come to my attention giving me cause to
believe..
1. That accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 63 of the Charities Act
2. That the accounts do not accord with those accounting records
3. That the accounts do not comply with the accounting requirements of the Charities Act
4. That there is further information needed for a proper understanding of the accounts to be
reached.
Independent examiner's statement
I have completed my examination and I have identified matters of concern in respect of areas (4)
listed above because a prior year adjustment has been made for 2023 as a project run by the
church was not included in the 2023 accounts. Note 5 includes full disclosure of the project and the
2023 accounts have been restated to reflect the error.
In respect of matters (1) to (3) listed above, and in following the Directions of the Charity
Commission for Northern Ireland, I have found no other matters that require drawing to your
attention.

Set out below are the principal accounting policies which have been adopted in the compilation of
the Receipts and Payments Account and the Statement of Assets and Liabilities.
Receipts and Payments Account
All items of income and expenditure included in the Receipts and Payments Account have
been accounted for on a cash receipt basis.
The Walled City Passion received income of £69,476 (£2023 £95,751). Included in this
income is grant funding of £16,428 (2023 £nil) from the Department of Foreign Affairs
Reconciliation Fund.
Statement of Assets and Liabilitles
(a) Assets retained for the Parish's own use
The assets of the Parish, retained for its own use comprise of..
Church building - Christ Church
The building is deemed to be a heritage asset as defined by the Charities SORP (FRS 102).
The heritage asset is not included in the statement of assets and liabilities as information on
the cost or valuation is not available and such information cannot be obtained at a cost
commensurate with the benefit to the users of the accounts and the parish.
Christ Church forms part of the combined parish of Christ Church, Culmore and Muff and St
Peters (CCCMSP). The rectory and parish centre for the combined parish are included in the
Statement of Assets and Liabilities of St Peter's church.
(b) Investments
Fixed asset investments comprising investments in RCBICIT Unit Trusts are initially
recorded at cost and then subsequently stated at fair value at each yearend date.

5 Walled City Passion Project- Prior Year Adjustment
The Walled City Passion Project is a project that takes place during Easter in
DerrylLondonderry telling the story of the Passion of the Christ though the staging of a
promenade perfomiance on the City Walls. The project is governed by Christ Church and a
production company is appointed to manage the performance. The project was initiated in
2021 with the first performance was undertaken at Easter 2022.
The project is incorporated into Christ Church accounts in 2024 and the figures for 2023
have been restated to include the Walled City Passion project. The project was not included
in prior years due to a reporting oversight. In 2023 the Walled City Passion had income of
£69.476 and expenditure of £65.643. Prior to 2023 the Walled City Passion project has
income of £184,501 and expenditure of £178,118 and an opening bank balance of £6.383 is
arried into the restated 2023 accounts.

Transactions with Trustees
The parish paid expenses to one trustee during the year, £1,385 to Ven Robert Millar as an
extra stipend. The parish paid out-of-pocket expenses of £867 to other trustees for minor
running expenses. No other trustees received any remuneration or reimbursement of
expenses during the year.
