The purpose of the Ulster Medical Society is to improve the care of the sick and to promote and advance health and medical
science by widening the education of medical students, doctors and allied health professionals, hence promoting better
patlent outcomes.
The Soclety is supported by membership fees only and d￿S not seek other sources of income. Membershlp is open to
medical studentsi qualified medical doctors and allied health professionals. The fees for each Individual reflect the level of
training, and membership fees vary from no fee to a full annual membership fee of £75.00.
The Society achieves the stated purpose of improving health care by
l. Hosting a series of Invited lectures throughout the academic year which reflect the health 'theme' as chosen by
the sitting president. The lectures are held in hospital or Queen's University premises, and actrss is'hybrid,, either
in person or online from home. CPD ￿rtIficateS (Continuing Professional Development) are issued to attendee5.
2. The Society promotes research by collaboratlng with Queen's University and the N Ireland Medical & Dentsl
Training Agency in delivering a trainee research dayi at which the Society sponsor prizes ft)r the best oral and
poster presentstion, thus recognising and rewarding rewrch excellen￿. In addition, each formal lecture through
the year has an initial opening session designated to allow trainees to present a synopsls of ongoing research.
This programme promotes the dissemination of knowledge and inspires innovation.
3. The S¢xiety publishes three issues of the Ulster Medical Journal per year, avallable in printed or digital format,
The ISO 4 standard abbreviation of the Journal is 'Ulst. Med. J., The journal covers a spectrum of
technologieslperspectives/categories related to medicine. All published articles are peer reviewed. The journal
provides a portal for medical and other health care practitioners to publish local medical research,
FINANCIAL REVIEW
The receipts of the society during the year was £32,087.01 compared to £33,108.53 in the previous year.
The payments for the year were £35,084. 12 compared to £36,723.59 in the previous year.
sfATEMENT OF TRusfEES RESPONSIBILMES
The trustees are responsible for preparing the annual report and the financial statements of the Soclety in accordance with
applicable law and generally ac￿pted account practi￿.
As the Society's total income does not ex￿ed £250,000, the Trustees have elected under Section 64(3) of the Charities
Act (Northern I￿land) 2018 to prepare a retripts and payment account and a statement of as*ts and Ilabilities.
The Trustees are responsible for keeplng adequate accounting record5 that are sufficient to show and explain the Society's
transactions and disclo* with reasonable accuracy at any time its financial position. They are also responsible for safe
guarding the assets of the society and hen￿ for taking reasonable steps for the preventlon and detection of fraud and
other irregularities.

I report on the accounts of the Trust for the year ended 31 March 2024, which are set out on pages 4 & 5.

As the charlty's trustee5 you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts In accordance with the Charities Act
(Northern Ireland) 2008.
It is my responsibility to:
examlne the accounts under section 65 of the Charltles Act
follow the procedures lald down in the general Directlons given by the Commission under settion 65(9)(b) of the
Charities Act
stste whether particular matters have come to my attentlon.
Basis of Independent examlner's report
I have examined your charity accounts as required under section 65 of the Charities Act and my examination was carrled
out in accordance with the general Directlons given by the Charlty Comm15slon for Northern Ireland under settion 65{9)(b)
of the Charities Att.
My examln3tion included a review of the accounting records kept by the charlty and a COTnparlson of the accounts presented
with those records. It also included consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking
explanations from you as charity trustees concernlng any such matters.
My role is to state whether any material matters have come to my attention giving me cause to believe:
l. That accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 63 of the Charities Act
2. That the accounts do not accord with those accounting records
3. That the accounts do not comply with the accountlng requlrements of the Charltles Act
4. That there is further Information needed for a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
