Review 2022: A note from the Rector Last Summer we had the privilege of visitin8 the Grand Canyon. The Grand Canyon Is in America, in the State of Arizona to be exact. Arizona is a Slate wilh a very interesting history. One of Ils most famcus towns is Tombstone. Do you happen to know where the phrase "born the wrong side of the track" come5 from? Do you know where the term "deadline" comes from? Both come from the days of Tombstone, a town was divided north / south by the railway track that went throu8h. On the south side you could carry gun5 and all sorts of stuff went on. On the north side there were no 8uns. That'5 where the churches were. That's where the families lived, Signs indicated the deadline. Walk across that line carrying a gun you're dead. There were no 8uns in ihe northern parl. If you're born on the wron8 side of the track you'd live where all ihe bad stuff was 80in8 on. St,Luke's Episcopal Church in Tombstone, Arizona, was built by Rev. Endicott Peabody during the time when Wyatt Earp was the sheriff. Rev. Peabody was the Rector. Wanting to build the church, he went into the saloon where Wyatl Earp was playing poker. Wyatt Earp was a deacon in the church. He even wore his 6un5 in church. When Rev. Peabody said he needed money lo build the church, Wyalt Earp was one of the first contributors. He had won a pile of money, so he took the money and gave it to the church. He lold everyone else in the saloon playing poker to 8ive their winnin85. The church is still there loday. noi faf from the OK Coral.
