Newcastle primary school PTA AGM 2023

A newly formed PTA was established in November 2022. The panel was nominated and we went to work on organising events, in the hope we could support the school financially & run some fun events in the process. These events will stick in the memory of the kids for years to come! Our main target we spoke about was the much needed upgrade of the school computer suite, which is so beneficial to all the pupils in the school!

Our first event was a Christmas disco and it went down a treat with kids and adults all having a blast and really put everyone in the festive mood. Along with the Christmas disco, we grouped together with the help of lots parents to pull in some fantastic prizes from very generous local businesses for a Christmas raffle which was drawn on the day of the disco. We also served tea & coffee at the school Christmas plays, it was a great first event for us. Between the disco, raffle, hampers & tea and coffee (at the school play) we managed to bring in over £2,800, what a start!

Next event was the cinema day, with the help of other local community groups in the area we managed to turn the hall into a theatre and each child got to come and get popcorn and watch a movie. There was a lot of excitement about this and with the help of staff as always we managed to put on a great day!

Throughout the year we did multiple raffles, including a Mother’s Day hamper, Father’s Day hamper, Easter, Christmas & Valentines. This was always well supported and a great way to continue to bring much needed funds into the school.

At the end of term 2 we ran an Easter egg hunt for the kids. Each child went home with an easter egg, and the Easter bunny been visited to add to the excitement! Along with that we again had Easter hamper competitions and a guess how many mini eggs in the jar. During this time the school performances of Robin Hood & the sherwood hoodies was on, so we took the opportunity to serve tea, coffee & buns to the parents which again brought in more funds for the school.

May says the coronation of the king, and for another opportunity to have a fun day in school. This included inflatables, BBQ, Ice-Cream & ActiSport… great fun had by all and another day that the kids will remember for years to come.

Our final event of the school year was our summer colour run. each child/family was given the task of raising funds in support of the Kevin Bell foundation. It was also a chance for us to invite our friends from St Josephs Primary School, Tyrella to join in on the fun. This was a fantastic event, and we had lots of help in ‘colouring’ our participants! Each of the class ran round the playground, while getting splatted with coloured powder, and trying to complete obstacles in the process. This was a great way to complete our events for the school year, and it was out pleasure to present The Kevin bell trust a cheque for £2,900, while also again raising some funds for the school.

The first event of this school year was our Halloween disco, it was a great success and a sign of hopefully more fun events to come as the weeks and months go on! The kids had a ball and they all dressed up in the costumes and had a dance and a laugh.

In our first year I am pleased to say we have achieved far more than any of us expected. We have had so many great events, lots of laughs and smiles and made a difference in the school community. We are also proud to say we managed to help upgrade the computer suite and its great to see and hear of so many pupils benefitting from the new computers!

I would like to thank everyone who has helped throughout the year. The committee have been great and very pro active, with a resilient attitude to make sure every event is organised to perfection. The staff in the school are always so helpful and hands on, and it makes these events so much easier to run smoothly. Mrs McCann and all the teachers have been open to every idea we have brought to them.. and its been great having the opportunity as a committee to run these days that we know the kids all love. Cheryl has been so helpful in organising day in day out when we aren’t there, between printing tickets/posters, sharing all the details we need to provide and general organising anything we needed, she had everything sorted.

Going forward it would be great to see more people involved, and new ideas are always welcome, but its been a great year and look forward to putting on more great events for the kids and reaching new targets in the process!
