## **Report of the members** 

The members are pleased to present their annual report and the financial statements for the year ended 31 March 2017. 

## **Governance and Management** 

The charity is governed by its constitution enacted on the 25 January 2011.  The constitution provides that the charity shall be administered and managed in accordance with the constitution by the members of the committee. 

## **Members** 

The following persons served as members in the year.

- Mohammad Arshad 

- Mohammad Rafiq 

- Mohammad Javed Iqbal 

## **Objectives and Activities** 

The charity’s objective is to maintain the culture and diverse needs of Muslim families of the Craigavon area by associating the statutory authorities, community and voluntary organisations and the inhabitants in a common effort to advance education, and to provide facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation and other leisure time occupation, with the object of improving the conditions of life and in particular: 

- a) To maintain, manage and cooperate with any local authority in the maintenance of a centre in the area for benefit of activities promoted by the association. 

- b) To promote good relations between persons of different racial groups generally, and particularly between racial groups professing the Muslim faith and all other inhabitants of the Craigavon area. 

## **Achievements and Performance** 

Throughout the year the organisation continued to pursue its goal of providing support to the Muslim community of Craigavon and in particular in encouraging and organising the following activities: 

1. Family support and counselling. 

2. Parenting discussion and training groups. 

3. Children’s education – Quran, Islamic manners and Arabic. 

4. Special groups for young Muslims. 

5. Regular workshops for all family members. 

6. Education for adults.

## **Financial Review** 

The results for the year and the charity’s financial position at the end of the year are set out in the attached accounts. 

## **Plans for Future Periods** 

The organisation plans to continue its efforts of encouraging and organising the activities outlined above. 

## **Trustees’ Responsibilities in relation to the Financial Statements** 

The Charities Act (Northern Ireland) 2008 require unincorporated charities to ensure that accounting records are kept which are sufficient to show and explain all the charity’s transactions, and which are such as to disclose at anytime, with reasonable accuracy, the financial position of the charity at that time. 

The accounting records shall in particular contain: 

- a) entries showing from day to day all  sums of monies received and expended by the charity, and the matters in respect of which the receipt and expenditure takes place, and, 

- b) a record of the assets and liabilities of the charity. 

## **Accountants** 

Flynn & Company Accountants Ltd remain as accountants to the charity. 

## **Statement of compliance** 

In setting our objectives and planning our activities for the year the trustees have given careful consideration to the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland’s Guidance on Public Benefit to ensure that the activities have helped to achieve the charity’s purpose and provide a benefit to the beneficiaries.

## **Independent examiner’s report to the charity trustees of The Muslim Association of Craigavon** 

We report on the accounts of the Association for the year ended 31 March 2017, which are set out on pages 6 and 7. 

## **Respective responsibilities of charity trustees and examiner** 

As the charity’s trustees you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the Charities Act (Northern Ireland) 2008. 

It is our responsibility to: 

- Examine the accounts under section 65 of the Charities Act. 

- Follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Commission under section 65(9) (b) of the Charities Act. 

- State whether particular matters have come to our attention. 

## **Basis of independent examiner’s report** 

We have examined your charity accounts as required under section 65 of the Charities Act and our examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland under section 65(9)(b) of the Charities Act. 

Our examination included a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records.  It also included consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as charity trustees concerning any such matters. 

Our role is to state whether any material matters have come to my attention giving us cause to believe: 

1. That accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 63 of the Charities Act. 

2. That the accounts do not accord with those accounting records. 

3. That the accounts do not comply with the accounting requirements of the Charities Act. 

4. That there is further information needed for a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached. 

## **Independent examiner’s statement** 

We have completed our examination and have no concerns in respect of the matters (1) to (4) listed above and, in connection with following the Directions of the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland, we have found no matters that require drawing to your attention.
