Objectives and Activities of the Charity The purpose of the charity as set out in its governing document The principal objective of the company is to benefit the community by managing and operating the new community centre. The facility is now open and caters for a wide range of activities including a weekly youth club, pensioners activities incl uding lunchtime social gatherings, Indoor bowling, Community flower arranging, historical talks. The centre has been used by the school to host their annual panto and also for PE Activities by the local Primary and Nursery schools. The centre has also been used as a base for a number of other community based activities. The centre hires out its facilities to cover running costs but has a community charging rate for local community groups. In having these objectives the company aims to relieve those in need by reason of age, ill health, disability and social disadvantage by promoting economic activity and reducing dependence on public funds. The company is an exclusively charitable organisation and continues to work promoting the above purpose only. The main artivities undertaken in relation to those purposes during the year The overriding objective of Ballyholland Development Association is to work for the benefit of the local community- The association provides quality facilities for the use of all groups within society from pre-school, school age, young adults, pensioners, sports groups and those involved in the arts sector. Current users of the facility include:_ l. Little Rascals- this a parent and toddler group who use the facility every Wednesday morning and provides a vital opportunity for parents and toddlers to interact in a safe and local setting 2. Sunshine Club-This is a club open to all those who have retired and are seeking to maintain social contact but also to learn new skills, attend informative talks and share experiences. 3. Ballyholland Traditional Music Group-This group works with all ages and abilities to teach traditional instruments and to learn music. The sessions are relaxed with no pressure and have a strong emphasis on fun and enjoyment. 4. Ballyholland Harps GAA Club-This is aimed at girls and boys aged 6- 18 and it uses the facility on a week night during the winter closed season period. The club organises activities in sport and culture 5. There are yoga classes held within the centre on a daily bases and these are fully promoted on the BDA Social media. Down Right Brilliant- This is a registered charity in Newry and Mourne, that provides support & services for individuals with Down Syndrome and their families and carers. It meets in the centre on a Friday night. The main activities undertaken during the year tofurther the charl￿5 purposefor the public benefit The direct benefits that flow from promoting community development are that the Ballyholland Development Association {BDA) facilities are used by a wider range of agencies and local groups. Action Cancer visited to carry out male health checks for the over 40s, the PSNI visited to discuss crime prevention and the Electoral Office now uses the centre as polling station due to its consideration as a neutral space. There is no private benefit flowing from this purpose as the services are free and the beneficiaries are local families and individuals living in or visiting Ballyholland The direct benefits that flow from promoting a recreational charities purpose are that the facilities are used by BDA groups such as the "Sunshine Club" which provides activities for the over 60s including flower arranging, bird box making, health discussions and afternoon tea. This brings isolated pensioners together in a friendSy local environment to share activities, stories and enjoy good company. The direct benefits that flow from advancing education, arts and culture are that organised courses in IT, Paired reading and local history have been oversubscribed with positive feedback given to the tutors and plans to deliver the sessions again in 2024. There is no private benefit flowing from this purpose as the beneficiaries are children aged 6-16 living in or visiting Ballyholland. The direct benefits that flow from promoting community relations is the creation of neutral space that both sides of the community can use and feel comfortable. In the past the loca5 GAA club and Orange Hall were used separately by each community- The new BDA facilities have already been used to host a Christmas play, community Concert and weekly Bingo with a list of attendees demonstrating that the entire community has come together. This has been actively encouraged by the organisers. There is some private benefitflowing from this purpose as a small number of those involved in certain events are paid but this is greatly outweighed by the gains for the wider community and those living in or visiting Ballyholland. Annually an audit is carried out of the skills mix and gaps are identified. The facility is managed by a full-time employee who reports to the Board on a monthly basis via the monthly Board meeting both in person and via written reports as required. Policie5 on re5erve5 The directors consider it is important to retain strong reserves to allow the charity to operate in a consistently changing and difficult environment. As present the company is still in the early stages of development and reserves remain at a low level. The company will endeavour to retain the equivalent of 4 months of its total income as available reserves. This allows for the late receipt of monies from funders and also the loss of current users of the centre. It is my responsibility to: examine the accounts under section 65 of the Charities Act follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Commission under section 65(9)(b) of the Charities Act state whether particular matters have come to my attention. Basis of independent examiner's report I have examined your charity accounts as required under section 65 of the Charities Act and my examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland under section 65(9)(b) of the Charities Act. My examination included a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also included consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as charity trustees concerning any such matters. My role is to state whether any material matters have come to my attention giving me cause to believe: l. That accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 63 of the Charities Act 2.
