East Antrim Trustees Annual Report 2024
Charity Number 104491
The charity exists to provide adults and children with special needs in the Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council and Mid and East Antrim Borough Council areas with the opportunity to ride and have contact with horses for their health and wellbeing.
The principal address of the charity and contact for the Charity Commission is Mrs Belinda Millar, 85 Shore Road, Carrickfergus BT38 8TZ.
In 2024 we catered for 73 riders, mostly from Hillcroft School and Thornfield School, at Laurel View Equestrian Centre, Templepatrick.
Main sources of income were a grant from the Education Authority, a large bequest, a donation from a charitable trust and a riding event at Shane’s Castle.
Main outgoings during the year were hire of ponies, arena hire, RDA membership and insurance, equipment and shed insurance, riding helmets and insurance for the Shane's Castle event.
The Public Benefit delivered by East Antrim RDA is seen in the achievements of the riders and the noticeable improvement in balance, coordination, self-confidence and social skills.
All volunteers and coaches go through an Enhanced AccessNI check as well as providing 2 references. The group has a Safeguarding Policy, a Health and Safety policy and a Risk Assessment policy, which are reviewed annually.
We consider that we have regard to the Commission's guidance on public health benefit and have fulfilled our obligations in this respect.
