A summary of the Charity’s main activities to further its purposes for the public benefit and the main achievements in the year

28 girls took part in the unit over the year, some leaving at age 7 mid-year to go on to Brownies, and 5 leaving in June 2024.

Badges achieved: Interest badges attained were Book Lover, Animal Lover, and Family Tree. Skillsbuilder badges, each worked at over several months, were Network and Live Smart. In addition, several girls gained related Theme Awards: Know Myself and Skills for my Future. We completed several Unit Meeting Activities related to the themes. 13 girls made their Promise. Several girls gained the Bronze Award for completing 2 Theme Awards. Two girls gained the Silver Award for completing 4 Theme Awards.

Interspersed with badge work were crafts, songs and games, intended to help with team building, sharing, and creativity, and we were able to be outdoors weather permitting during the summer term for a scavenge hunt and team games.

Extra-curricular activities/visits to the unit. The whole unit participated in a Santa trail at night, at Girlguiding Ulster HQ at Christmas, a very popular outing. We had a visit from a company called Clayful Minds, and the girls created figures from clay. A member of Girlguiding visited to do action songs with the unit.

E-learning and Zoom training for Safe Space was completed by leaders who needed to renew. One leader renewed First Response training. There were no serious incidents and the Safeguarding policy is in place. There was no harm flowing from the Charities purposes and there was no private benefit.

A review of the Charity’s financial position at the end of the year

Previous year’s income (2022-23): £2,825.90. Expenditure: £2,384.27. Balance at end of session: £1,913.42.

Current year’s income: (2023-24): £3,350.43. Expenditure: £3,021.30. Balance at end of session: £2,242.55.

All expenses were met for 2023-24. Reason for difference from previous year: income increased due to a grant from the Education Authority, and a further grant in March, some of which remained unspent, and we await an invoice for £179.95 to return this. Gift Aid showed an increase also. Expenditure increased due to the annual census levy increase, and an additional donation to the church for rent etc.

Details of any fund held by the Charity that was materially in deficit at the end of the year and steps taken by the Charity Trustees to eliminate the deficit
