Church, Ballyeglish Trustees, Annual Report for the year ended 31 December 2023 The trustees present the annual report and statements of Receipts and Payments and Assets and Li8bililies for the Church for the year ended 31 December 2023 Objectives and Activities The charitab18 purpose of the Church of Ireland is the advancement of religion. The principal function of St Matthias, Church, Ballyeglish is to support the advancement of the Christian religion by promoting, through their work the whole mission of the Church, pastoral. evangelistic, social and ecumenical. Being open to and engaging with society as a whole and offering support forthose needing help are fundamental to the practical delivery of the benefits of Christianity. As a result of activity in the pursuit of th8 advancement of the Christl8n religion, St Matthias, Church, Ballyeglish has custody of property and of records, materials and artefacts of significance to the cultural and religious heritage and Maintenan￿ of which is undertaken by the select vestry of St Matthias, Church, Ballyeglish. Achievements. Performance & Public Benefit The Parish holds public worship at a variety of services each week throughout the church year Holy Communion, Morning Pray8r, Baptisms, Marriages and Funerals, There are s8rvic8s focusing on Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter, Harvest etc. Our WhalsApp services continue each week for those unable to attend and evefy morning our rector continues to support Parishioners with a daily Bible reading and prayers. Sunday School continues on Sunday mornings at 9.30AM and we are grateful to parents for bringing their children each week 8nd to all our teachers for their dedication and support. Al 811 times we keep in mind our Safe Gu8rding Trust policy, Health and Safety requirements and regulations. The purpose of our charitable fund raising is not only for our own costs, but also for a variety of n88d Isae donations list note 8}. This is a tangible demonstration of our mission and outreach - a reach that covers both home and abroad. The Parish has given careful consideration to the Charity Commission for Northem Ireland's guidance on public benefit to ensure that the actlV8s entered into during the year h8ve helped to achieve the Parish's objectives and activities, as well as providing public benefit. Financial Review The results for the year are 88t out on page 8, which the Trustees consider lo be satisfactory. The reserves of the Parish are held for the advancement of its charitable purpose, other than restricted reserves which are held for a designated purpose - see note 9. Going Concem The trustees have reviewed the budgets for the year ahead and are satisfied that there are adequate funds in place lo ensure that the Parish can continue ils activities and the financial statements for the year ended 31 December 2023 can be signed off as a going concern.

The Select Vestry members are the Charity Trustees. Recruitment and Appointment of Select Vestry (Trustees) All members of the Church of Ireland who are over the age of 18 and are 81ther resident within the parish or liv8 elsewhere but have been accustomed members of the congregation for at least three months, may register as members of the general vestry of the parish, allowing them lo attend and vote at meetings of th8 general v8Stry and to stand for election to the select vestry. Meetings of the general vestry are held at least once a year. The Select Vestry is elected as part of this General Vestry meeting. The Select Veslry will hold their positions for a period of one year. Select V8Stry members may be re-elected annually and there is no limit on the number of terms which m8y be served. Organisational Structure The select vestry is responsible for the day to day man8gement of the parish. The select vgstry consists of the m8mber of the clergy serNing in the p8rish, any curale assistant ("th8 curate'l, the churchwardens, the gleb8 wardens and generally not more than twelve other members of the general vestry elected at the General Vestry. The select vestry is chaired by the incumbent or other member of the clergy offic18ting in the parish. Select vestry members are responsible for making decisions on matters of g8n8ral conc8rn and importance to th8 parish including deciding how parish funds are to be applied. The select vestry meels at times fixed by the members or by the diocesan synod. Special m88lings may be convened at any time by the chairperson or the churchwardens. In 2023 the Select Vesiry met 7 times during the year and the average attendance was 859h. Respective responsibilities of charity trustees and examiner As the charity's truste8s, you are responsible for the preparation of the 8ccounts in accordance with the Charities Act (Northem Ireland) 2008. It is my responsibility to= examine the accounts under section 65 of the Ch8rities Act follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Commission under section 65(9J{b) of the Charities Act state whether particular matters have come to my attention. Basis of independent examinef8 report I have examined your charity accounts as required under section 65 of the Charities Act and my examination was carried out in accordan￿ with the general Directions given by the Charity Commission for Northem Ireland under section 6519)Ibl of the Charities Act. My ex8mination included a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. Accounting policies Set out below are the principal accounting policies which have been adopted in the compilation of the Receipts and Payments Account and the Statemenl of Assets and Liabilities (a) Receipts and Payments Account All items of income and expenditure includ8d within the Receipts and Payments Account have been account8d for on a cash receipts b8SIS. (b} Stalement of Assets and Liabilities The congr8gation has reviewed the basis on which it has prepar8d ils accounts and in order that these 8re prepared on a strict receipts and payments basis it has eliminated from ils fund balances any funds which are not held in bank or cash balances. Any other funds, which th8 congregation holds, in particular investments, 8re disclosed on the Statement of Assets & Liabilities. (l) Assets retalned for the Parish's own uso The assets of the Parish, retained for its own use comprise'.- Church Buildings and Graveyard Church Store & Toilet Gleb8 land The Church Building and Graveyard are deemed to be Heritage assets as defined by the Charities SORP (FRS102}. These Heri18ge assets are not included in the slalement of assets and liabilities as information on the cost or valuation is not available and such information cannot be obtained 8t a cost comm8nsurate with the benefit lo the users of the accounts and to the parish. The Church store and loilet was built in 2013. It is recognised at cost of construction. No depreciation has been provided on the store and toilet block as the current estimated residual value is not less than its carrying value and the remaining useful lrfe currently exceeds 50 years. Glebe land has been valued as 1 acr8 at agricultural value of £10,000 per acre. 11) Investments Fixed asset inv85tments comprising investment properties, investments in equities (ordinary shares) and investment in RCBICIT Unit Trusts are initially recorded 81 cost and are then subsequently stated at fair value at each year end dat8. Transactlon8 wlth the Trustees The Parish paid a contribution of £1 ,465.35 towards the running costs of Monaymore Rectory which is occupi8d by the redor. There were no Ir8ns8Ctions with the trustees during the year. No trustee received any remuneration or reimbursement of expenses during the year, other than Mr Stephen Wall8ce who received £1200 as an honorarium for his role as the Parish caretaker and Parish groundsman. No trustee or a person related to a trust88 had any person81 interest in any contract or transaction entered into by th8 charity during the year. 14. Govemancè Costs Governanc8 costs of £360 were incurred during the year of which £360 relates to fees paid to the independent examiner. GOVarnan￿ costs are included within Administration costs in the Receipts and Payments Accounts. 14
